Netflix Announces Stranger Things’ Perfect Replacement Show
A fresh report uncovered Netflix’s potential successor show for “Stranger Things,” slated to wrap up production in 2025. Launched in 2016, “Stranger Things” captivated audiences with its extraordinary sci-fi horror narrative set in the make-believe town of Hawkins, Indiana. The series revolves around a gang of kids and an enigmatic outcast named Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown), who uncovers a parallel universe called the Upside Down, inhabited by monstrous beings such as the Demogorgon and the Mind Flayer.
Over four seasons, Stranger Things has grown into an enormous hit by skillfully blending comedy and drama, delivering a powerful narrative, and tapping into nostalgia. As the show approaches its final act, another contender is poised to step out of the shadows, as Netflix plans to revive yet another beloved television series.
Netflix, as reported by Deadline, has finalized an agreement with Legendary Television to reimagine the 1974 science fiction series “Land of the Lost,” originally created by Sid and Marty Krofft. The story revolves around Rick and his two children who inexplicably pass through a portal, instantly landing them in a prehistoric realm teeming with dinosaurs, reptilian beings, and primate-like inhabitants.
The TV show “Land of the Lost” originally ran on NBC as a children’s program for three seasons from 1974 to 1976. Even though it only lasted for a few years, the series was reimagined by ABC in 1991 and eventually turned into a movie in 2009, starring Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, and Anna Friel due to its enduring popularity and cult following.
The show “Land of the Lost” is one of Legendary Television’s upcoming projects, alongside “Dune: Prophecy” on HBO Max, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” from Apple TV+, and live-action shows based on “Tomb Raider” and “Pacific Rim”.
Why Land of the Lost Is Netflix’s Perfect Replacement for Stranger Things
With the final episodes of “Stranger Things” approaching, Netflix seems to be considering “Land of the Lost” as an ideal successor for its popular sci-fi show. Here’s why this could be a fitting choice.
In my perspective, “Land of the Lost” resonates with the spirit of “Stranger Things” as both shows share a common element: their casts include children, much like how the Duffer Brothers crafted the appeal of their series – the compelling camaraderie between its young characters (for details on the cast ages in Season 5 of “Stranger Things,” take a look here). Both productions are also rich with intriguing creatures and secret realms that serve to ignite an adventurous spirit within viewers.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but notice the captivating allure of shows that delve into nostalgia, and that’s exactly what made “Stranger Things” such a hit for me. Similarly, I believe “Land of the Lost” could strike a chord with audiences, given its setting in the vibrant era of the 1970s – a decade rich in culture and unique to its own. While “Stranger Things” transports us back to the neon-lit streets of the ’80s, “Land of the Lost” offers an exciting journey through the more carefree days of the ’70s instead.
The unique aspect of ‘Land of the Lost’ compared to ‘Stranger Things’ is that its characters are placed in a completely new prehistoric setting, while much of the action in ‘Stranger Things’ occurs in Hawkins, Indiana.
Considering the recent resurgence of dinosaurs in today’s popular culture, thanks to “Jurassic World: Rebirth”, the television series “Land of the Lost” now has a golden opportunity to present a fresh perspective on a prehistoric world teeming with dinosaurs while ensuring it remains unique.
In terms of potential growth, the series “Land of the Lost” could potentially develop its lore in a way similar to how “Stranger Things” did over multiple seasons. To put it simply, Netflix has a unique chance to bring “Land of the Lost” up to par with “Stranger Things” by skillfully blending adventure and humor while maintaining a compelling narrative at its core.
