Netflix shocked the entertainment world by announcing an $82.7 billion deal to buy Warner Bros. The purchase will be finalized after Discovery Global becomes an independent company in 2026, as was previously stated in June.
The deal brings HBO, HBO Max and major franchises under Netflix’s ownership
Okay, so if this deal goes through, Netflix will basically own everything Warner Bros. has – all their movie and TV studios, HBO, HBO Max, and a huge collection of awesome franchises. The good news is, Netflix says they’re planning to keep things running as usual, so we’ll still get movies in theaters, which is a relief!
Netflix is excited to announce we’ve acquired Warner Bros. This will allow us to create amazing stories and entertainment experiences for people all over the world, shaping the future of entertainment for years to come.

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, stated that their goal has always been to entertain people globally. He explained that by adding Warner Bros.’ extensive collection of films and shows to Netflix’s popular content, they’ll be even more successful at doing so. He believes this combination will allow them to offer audiences more of what they enjoy and shape the future of storytelling.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced that his company is partnering with Netflix. He stated that this collaboration will combine the strengths of two major entertainment companies, allowing them to deliver beloved stories to a wider global audience for years to come.
This is great news for mobile gamers! Netflix has been expanding its mobile games selection, and this new deal gives them access to incredibly popular franchises that are perfect for creating new games.
As a gamer, I’m super excited about this! It looks like they’re pulling characters and stories from everywhere – the DC Universe, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, even Godzilla’s Monsterverse! Basically, anything from Warner Bros. and HBO is fair game. And from what I’ve heard, they’ve got a ton of cool stuff still in development, with some really talented people from all these big entertainment companies working on it.

Currently, the agreement is pending regulatory review and needs to be approved by shareholders. It will be finalized once Discovery Global is established as an independent company. Following this separation, Discovery Global will focus on its entertainment, sports, and news channels internationally.
