Netflix adds BBC drama with Mr Bates vs The Post Office star
As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for good storytelling and a soft spot for British dramas, I must say that the recent addition of “Capital” to Netflix has sent my excitement levels soaring! Having grown up on a steady diet of BBC productions, I can confidently say that this series is right up there with the best of them.
A 2015 BBC One drama starring Mr Bates vs the Post Office‘s Toby Jones has been added to Netflix.
Drawing inspiration from John Lanchester’s critically acclaimed novel titled “Capital“, the narrative unfolds as we follow a single street in South London undergoing a significant metamorphosis due to escalating real estate values.
The people living on the street eventually find a menacing note on a postcard from an unidentified author. The message reads: “We’re After Your Possessions.” It’s uncertain who sent the card, but it appears they are after something that belongs to the residents.
Apart from Jones, the three-part series additionally features actors like Adeel Akhtar known for “Fool Me Once”, Gemma Jones famed for “God’s Own Country”, Wunmi Mosaku recognized in “Deadpool & Wolverine” and Lesley Sharp who starred in “The Full Monty”.
Behind the scenes, there’s a wealth of talented individuals at work. Peter Bowker, known for ‘The A Word’, is responsible for the scriptwriting, while Euros Lyn, who has worked on shows like ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Heartstopper’, takes on the role of director.
Ever since I started binging that new show on Netflix, it’s climbed its way up to the top 10 most-watched programs on their UK platform. Quite a feat!
Netflix has been bringing in a good deal of older licensed content recently, such as the forgotten thriller featuring James Bond’s Ana de Armas, as well as the first two seasons of “Gangs of London,” starring Paapa Essiedu from “The Lazarus Project” and Joe Cole from “Peaky Blinders.” Interestingly enough, it seems that “Gangs of London” will eventually have a third season.
Projects like Chris Evans’ 2017 movie “Gifted” sometimes gain renewed popularity on streaming platforms after initially going unnoticed at their release, such as becoming the third most watched film on Netflix’s Global Film Chart once it was added, surpassed only by two fresh releases.
Absolutely, Netflix doesn’t just offer existing content but also creates and introduces new series. Coming up in the next week, we have the third season of “Heartstopper” and the seventh season of “Love is Blind”.
Capital is available to stream now on Netflix. It previously aired on BBC One.
