Have you been longing for a trip down memory lane? Well, here’s something exciting from your childhood – Neopets is back with its 56th unique creature! If you recall, the Vandagyre was introduced in late 2014 as the 55th species. Let me tell you about the latest addition – the Varwolf! Here are all the details on this new species and how to acquire a Varwolf Neopet for yourself.

Varwolf Neopet now live

A fresh addition to the Neopet family has been unveiled – the long-awaited Varwolf species! Hints were dropped earlier this month, followed by a formal announcement. Interestingly, the Varwolf was initially introduced back in Neopets Year 7 as an April Fools’ Day prank, but it’s now officially available!

The enigmatic Varwolves, hidden in the eerie depths of the Haunted Forest for eons, are now seeking to integrate with the broader Neopia community. Notably, these creatures are drawn to gloomy and spine-tingling environments, boasting thick pelts and a penchant for scouring the Haunted Woods for peculiar, unsavory food items.

How to create a Varwolf on Neopets

Every user on Neopia has an opportunity to obtain a Varwolf. But, Premium members of Neopets will receive early access to the new Varwolf species. These premium users can now leverage their Species Change advantage to acquire a Varwolf. If a player has previously used this benefit, they may utilize it once more to transform one of their pets into the new Varwolf species.

For individuals who don’t have a subscription, the opportunity to acquire a Varwolf will be available when the species is released for all in July 2025. Neopians can unlock their own Varwolf by participating in an event and completing a questline, which isn’t tied to any specific timeframe. This means that Neopians can secure a Varwolf whenever they choose to do so at their leisure.

Can you adopt a Varwolf on Neopets?

It is important to mention that Varwolves can’t be relinquished to the Neopian Shelter. In fact, neither trading nor adopting a Varwolf is possible.

“If you try to abandon it, it will run away forever!” Neopets added in an official post.

Neopets Varwolf colors

Initially, when Varwolf Neopets are introduced, only four colors – Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow – will be accessible. Additional customization options like painting with Brushes at the Rainbow Pool, visiting the Lab Ray, or using Varwolf Morphing Potions won’t be available from the start.

As a gamer, I’ve discovered that diving into the Magma Pool with a Varwolf is pointless if you’re aiming to color it magma, as it transforms into the game settings icon instead. This happens because Magma Varwolves aren’t part of the initial release of the game, unfortunately.

Regardless of these circumstances, you have the freedom to personalize your Varwolf by choosing its background and foreground accessories. As mentioned on their official support site, additional clothing options for this new species are planned in the future too.
