Nelly’s Inauguration Ball Performance Ignites Drama and Threatens His Marriage

Nelly’s choice to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration ball has stirred controversy, causing a backlash among fans and even his ex-collaborators. This decision might also potentially strain his marriage.

The hip-hop artist drew harsh critique upon being announced for the festivities, sharing later that he had accepted the invitation due to a sense of ‘respect’ for the position in question, having teamed up with Snoop Dogg for the occasion.

Currently, it’s reported by DailyMail.com that there was a sudden conflict between Nelly (age 50) and Kelly Rowland, as he requested approval to perform their hit song “Dilemma” from 2002, but she declined.

According to a source, Kelly decided not to let Nelly perform ‘Dilemma’ at the inauguration as a show of support for her preferred candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to reports, Destiny’s Child’s lead singer, aged 43, was unaware of Nelly’s plan to perform, and if he disregards this, her team will send a request for the performance to be removed (a ‘take down notice’).

The source revealed that she was taken aback upon discovering Nelly would be performing, and immediately communicated that she hadn’t given approval for him to sing their collaborative song. Her representatives are ready to submit a notice to remove the performance if he disregards her instruction.

‘She doesn’t want any song of hers to be performed at a Trump inauguration.’

The song “Dilemma” held the number one spot on the charts for 10 separate weeks following its June 2002 release, earning Nelly and Rowland a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Performance. Additionally, it was nominated for the prestigious Record of the Year award.

As a devoted admirer, I found myself captivated by a woman who was already taken, much like how Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” once reigned supreme on the charts. However, my infatuation’s tune proved more enduring, eventually surpassing Nelly’s classic and selling an impressive 7 million copies globally.

In the year 2020, the video for the song Dilemma became one of the earliest rap music videos to reach a billion views on YouTube.

Concerns exist that the uproar linked to the Ride Wit Me rapper’s inauguration performance may be adversely affecting his spouse, Ashanti as well.

Initially together from 2003 to 2013, then apart for a decade, the pair reunited in 2023 and quietly got married in December of the same year.

They welcomed their first child, son Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, in July 2024.

Supporters of his wife, aged 44, have not hesitated to express their disapproval towards Nelly, ever since it was announced that he would be performing.

According to another source, it was mentioned that Nelly isn’t intimidated by the criticism he’s facing. Instead, he’ll make more income from this performance compared to what he’s earned from album sales over the past few years.

‘But those close to Ashanti are concerned about the repercussions for her.

‘Her musical career is in a better place and she could alienate her core fan base.’

In fact, the repercussions have already begun affecting the artist, as the Ashanti News fan page on Instagram announced on Sunday that it would discontinue its operations.

Based on the latest developments concerning Nelly and his choices, I am now unable to administer @AshantiNews or endorse The Haynes as they currently operate. This turn of events is deeply disheartening.

It’s been fantastic for more than two decades bringing together Ashanti enthusiasts globally and disseminating news, videos, and pictures. Many of you I will deeply miss! Stay safe.

Other fans expressed comparable sentiments on platform X, with one fan commenting, “Ashanti should have a conversation with her partner. His actions may not only harm him but also potentially damage her reputation and success.

Originally stated: ‘I was eagerly anticipating Nelly and Ashanti’s small reality show… now I find myself having to distance myself from him, and even their relationship. Sigh.’

‘I was really excited for the small reality show starring Nelly and Ashanti, but now I must cut ties with him and them as well. A deep sigh.’

Nelly stirred up increasing anger as he tried to clarify why he accepted the invite on Sunday evening.

In conversation with right-wing journalist Officer Lew on X, he expressed that his actions weren’t driven by financial gain, but rather a sense of honor. He added that his respect for the position held more importance than who was currently holding it.

In 2023, Nelly, who had sold half of his music catalog, containing hits like “Dilemma,” to HarbourView Equity Partners for an impressive $50 million, began likening himself to military personnel.

He went on to say, “Just as those who safeguard our nation – whether they are male or female, relatives or not – often find themselves sent into battle and risking their lives for whoever is holding office, the same principle applies.

If they are willing to risk their lives for anyone in power, then I am certainly capable of delivering my best for anyone in power.

In my line of work, I often encounter questions about my beliefs and associations. Recently, someone questioned whether I was supporting white supremacy. To those who harbor such doubts, I would politely challenge them to present evidence that supports this claim. I stand firm in my values of equality and inclusivity, and I invite anyone to scrutinize my actions and words in this regard.

He acknowledged that Trump is problematic and denied he was trying to tell people how to vote.

He didn’t imply that the person doesn’t have unusual behaviors; instead, he clarified that his statement was not about whom to vote for.

I’m trying to clarify that he is currently serving as the President of the United States, not running as a candidate. He has already been elected and won.

Back in 2017, when Donald Trump was sworn in as President, I couldn’t keep my feelings hidden. Now, eight years later, I can’t help but express my thoughts again, sharing my ongoing disapproval of his leadership during his first term.

He shared with PageSix that although he personally admired Donald Trump, he wasn’t comfortable with Trump being his president.

I’m not taken aback by him as an individual, but I am surprised by him as a president, because his actions and demeanor are not what one typically associates with the role.

He subsequently stated: “Well, you see, I’m quite upset with him as I can no longer lodge at his establishments… For the past 15 years, I had been a guest there, and suddenly this happens? Come on, let’s sort things out, buddy!

Time will tell if Nelly performs his 2000 hit, Country Grammar, in which he gave Trump a shout out.

In this song, the lyrics go: ‘I’m pounding like a divine messenger, grant me access, give me entry, give me entry/Bill Gates, President Trump, grant me access.’

On Monday, Nelly is scheduled to perform after Snoop Dogg’s main act at the Crypto Ball event, which supports Trump and takes place before his inauguration in Washington on Friday.

The rapper was accused of hypocrisy as fans referenced his past opposition to Republican Trump.

In the year 2017, Snoop Dogg garnered attention due to a contentious music video where he depicted a character resembling a Trump-esque clown.

As unfazed as ever by the criticism, I, a devoted follower, swiftly addressed concerns when they arose, much like Snoop Dogg did back in 2017 when he portrayed a character resembling Trump in his music video.

Shortly following the expression of their concerns, he reshared a post on Instagram from his colleague Rick Ross.

‘Got a real Crip up in the Crypto Ball, bang bang,’ Snoop added in the video.

The occasion showcased a performance from both Soulja Boy and Nelly, adding their talents to the already impressive roster that included Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross.

Regardless of the noise, Snoop’s participation signifies a wider trend, as he aligns himself with an increasing number of prominent individuals who appear to be adapting a more accommodating position towards the newly elected President.

In July, Amber Rose, who had previously stated that she would relocate to Canada if Donald Trump won the 2016 election, encountered criticism following her decision to support him during a speech at the Republican National Convention.
