Nelly Defends Trump Performance Amid Backlash: ‘It’s an Honor, Not About Politics’
Nelly has addressed the criticism that arose from his performance at the Liberty Ball held on Monday, which celebrated the swearing-in ceremony of President Donald Trump.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I, the rapper, have been invited to be part of the historic inaugural events. I recently had a chat with Officer Lew on X about my decision to accept this invitation. Here, I’ll explain my reasons behind this choice.
The Grillz artist clarified that he’s not involved for financial gain, but rather because it’s a privilege and he holds the position in high regard. He added that regardless of who is in power.
He compared himself to members of the military.
In much the same manner as our fellow citizens – our colleagues, friends, and family members who serve and protect our nation – may be called to fight and risk their lives for those holding political positions, I am equally prepared to demonstrate my dedication and commitment to any position I hold.
Afterward, Lew posed the question to him, “How do you respond to those who claim, ‘We aren’t attacking you due to your political allegiances or decisions, but rather because you support white supremacy?’
‘I would ask them to show me where he’s a white supremacist,’ Nelly answered.
Later on, he mentioned parts of the 1994 Crime Bill that Senator Joe Biden once sponsored, but he seemed to mix it up with the 1986 Crime Bill signed by Ronald Reagan. This legislation required a minimum sentence of five years without parole for anyone found with just five grams of crack cocaine.
1994’s Crime Bill provided financing for constructing prisons, intended to house individuals found guilty of violent offenses. This legislation has been criticized by numerous people as a significant contributor to the disproportionate imprisonment of African Americans in the U.S. prison system.
Correct, he did say ‘if you don’t vote for me, you’re not black,’ right?” He was being sarcastic, echoing a statement made by President Joe Biden during an interview before he dropped out of the race.
Later on, Nelly probed Trump’s history by asking, “Alright, let me dive in. It’s been said that he didn’t lease properties to Black people back in the 70s and 80s. Is that true? And if so, is he renting to them today? So, if no one can change his policies, is that correct?
In 1970, Donald Trump and his father, Fred, faced a lawsuit from the Department of Justice due to their practice of denying rental opportunities to individuals based on race. However, this legal dispute was resolved when Trump Management agreed in writing to cease such discriminatory practices.
In simpler terms, the 1968 Fair Housing Act prohibits the practice of denying rental or sale of homes due to factors such as ethnicity, skin color, religious beliefs, sex (considering both biological and self-identified gender, as well as sexual orientation), physical or mental disability, family makeup, or nationality.
‘Observe, the point is, we can discuss various experiences, but we tend to shy away from discussing our personal histories. In our community, when our past actions are mentioned, particularly those of our male peers, we often label it as a period of rehabilitation… These young men have faced numerous hardships. I, too, have had my fair share. If my history was something that would hinder me from succeeding today, I wouldn’t be here.’
Regarding Trump, he acknowledged, “I’m not suggesting he doesn’t have some unconventional methods, and I’m certainly not telling you who to vote for. What I am saying is that he is the President of the United States. He’s not a candidate anymore; he’s the sitting President. He won the election.
Nelly’s comments drew praise from Black and white commenters.
‘Nelly is a class act. He’s always seen through the garbage,’ contended one fan.
One supporter affirmed, “These key phrases indicate NELLY’s respect for the position, not the individual holding it. It’s correct in numerous aspects.
As someone who’s backed President Trump since 2016 and happens to be of African-American descent, I can certainly empathize with Nelly’s perspective!
In the interview, it was clear that there were some misunderstandings on your part regarding Project 2025. I would strongly recommend taking some time to look up more information about it.
Others suggested that there might be issues with Drake’s upcoming “Where The Party Tour,” where he is set to headline alongside Eve and Ja Rule, potentially facing problems.
One previous supporter expressed their disapproval by stating, “I won’t back this debacle. I suggest MAGA audience members consider purchasing tickets for the past-his-prime tour instead.
