As a lot of you know, we sadly lost the incredibly talented Neil Sedaka recently. It’s been a few weeks since he passed away at the age of 86 on February 27th, and now we finally have some clarity on the cause of his death. It’s always difficult to lose a legend, and understanding what happened can bring a little peace.

The singer, famous for songs like “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do,” was taken to the hospital just hours before he passed away.

Family members confirmed the unexpected death of the famous rock and roll musician, according to a statement given to the Daily Mail.

Neil Sedaka passed away due to heart disease caused by a buildup of plaque in his arteries, according to his death certificate, which was first reported by the California Post.

This long-term health problem happens when fats, cholesterol, and other materials accumulate inside and on the walls of arteries, according to the Mayo Clinic.

This condition can increase the risk of stroke, heart attack, kidney failure, and blood clots.

Kidney failure was also listed as a factor into his death last month. 

According to his death certificate, Sedaka was prepared for burial at the Hollywood Funeral Home and was buried on March 3rd at Beth Olam Cemetery in Los Angeles.

The star’s passing on February 27 was confirmed by his loved ones in an emotional statement.

He was a rock and roll icon and a source of inspiration for so many, but to those who knew him personally, he was an exceptional person who will be greatly missed.

The popular singer, known for his smooth style in the 1960s and 70s, was taken to a hospital in Los Angeles right before he passed away.

TMZ reported that Neil Sedaka wasn’t feeling well this morning, and paramedics were called to his house around 8 AM Pacific Time.

The musician was then taken to a nearby hospital to get checked out.

Just hours later, Sedaka’s family confirmed the heartbreaking news that he had passed away.

Two days earlier on February 25, the singer was spotted grabbing dinner in his final picture. 

The musician was seen having a meal at Craig’s restaurant in Los Angeles and appeared to be in a cheerful mood, according to photos taken by paparazzi.

The velvet-voiced Grammy-nominated Sedaka got his start in the 1950s with the band The Tokens.

He’s most famous for his hit song from the 1960s, “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,” which he released after starting his career as a solo performer.

The singer, originally from Brighton Beach, New York, became famous for hits like “Oh! Carol” and “Calendar Girl,” which quickly became popular.

He had two big hits in the 1970s with the beloved singles Laughter In The Rain and Bad Blood.

Neil Sedaka has received five Grammy nominations and was honored with induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983.

This artist is an incredibly productive songwriter, having created or collaborated on more than 500 songs – both for his own work and for other musicians.

Neil Sedaka penned several hit songs for other artists, including Connie Francis’s “Stupid Cupid,” Tony Christie’s “Is This the Way to Amarillo,” and Captain & Tennille’s “Love Will Keep Us Together.”

He also served as a guest judge on season two of American Idol.

Neil Sedaka and Leba Strassberg married in 1962 and had two children, Dara and Marc.

In 1947, he won a piano scholarship to the Juilliard School’s program for young students and attended classes there on Saturdays.

He began writing popular songs at the age of 13, learning from a poet who lived nearby. His breakthrough song, “Calendar Girl,” became a hit in 1961.

Other early hits were Little Devil, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen and Next Door to an Angel.

1962 was a standout year for Neil Sedaka, as his song “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” topped the charts and “Next Door to an Angel” reached number five.

Neil Sedaka funded the creation of new CDs – including recording, production, and getting them to stores – and also updated and re-released his older music, all through his company, Neil Sedaka Music.

In 1991, Neil Sedaka re-recorded his popular songs from the late 1950s and early 1960s due to a disagreement with RCA Records about who owned the rights to the original recordings.
