Neighbours star Jackie Woodburne announces shock career move

Australian soap opera actress Jackie Woodburne, best known for her role as Susan Kennedy on Neighbours, has recently disclosed an unexpected career shift since the formal conclusion of the show’s production earlier this month.

In the upcoming TV thriller “Imposter,” the seasoned actress, aged 69, will share the screen with Kym Marsh, a beloved former star from “Coronation Street,” who is now 49 years old.

The series marks Jackie’s first non-Neighbours role in more than 30 years.

Since her role as Susan Kennedy on Ramsay Street in 1994, the cherished artist hasn’t been seen in any production yet.

In the upcoming series, Jackie takes on the role of Helen, the staunch matriarch who staunchly opposes selling their beachfront hotel. This decision ignites a passionate, dramatic conflict within her grown-up offspring.

The story takes an intriguing turn as Amanda, portrayed by Marsh, shows up, asserting she is Helen’s biological child who was put up for adoption long ago.

In the course of Amanda joining the family, questions surface regarding her genuine persona, unfolding into an intensely suspenseful story involving deceit and treachery, ultimately ending in homicide, as suggested by the series summary.

The series is set to be filmed across Victoria later this year.

Jackie has been portraying Susan, the spouse of Alan Fletcher’s character Dr. Karl Kennedy, on screen since 1994.

According to recent accounts, Fletcher appears to be diving headfirst into a fresh phase without delay, as the production of Neighbours has concluded.

Last week, it became known that the well-loved Australian actor decided to leave Ramsay Street for live performances, surprising everyone with plans for a music tour in the United Kingdom.

After just wrapping up filming on the legendary Australian soap opera, I, at 68 years old (famously recognized as Dr. Karl Kennedy since 1987), journeyed to London alongside my spouse, Jennifer Hansen, eager to explore my passion for music.

On Friday, Jennifer announced thrilling news on her social media platforms by uploading a joyous photo showing herself and Alan smiling broadly upon arriving in England.

I’ve landed in London alongside Alan, and let me tell you, I can hardly contain my enthusiasm for our inaugural performance at The Bedford Pub on July 22nd – a significant milestone in what promises to be an extraordinary chapter in my spouse’s post-soap journey.

The Perth-born actor is one of the most beloved stars to ever appear on the Aussie soap opera.

After being unexpectedly cancelled in February, the long-lasting soap opera wrapped up its production earlier this month.

Amazon did not renew their contract with production company Fremantle Australia.

Upon hearing the surprising news, a representative from Amazon shared with TopMob: “For the past four decades, Neighbors has been a source of immense pleasure for its worldwide audience. We are deeply grateful for this.

Reaching the 40-year mark is truly remarkable, and we take great pride in contributing to the continuation of additional episodes for Freevee and Prime Video subscribers during the past two years through Amazon MGM Studios.

In a touching message, the team reassured viewers that the remaining episodes of the 40th anniversary season will still air on both Amazon Prime Video and Channel Ten, featuring all the exciting plot twists and turns that fans have grown to cherish.

In late 2025, the last episodes will be broadcast, marking another farewell for viewers as Ramsay Street goes off-air for a second time, following its cancellation in February 2022.
