Need something new to stream? There are 29 new shows (and returning favorites) coming in August 2024

As a dedicated fan of both animated and live-action series, I’m particularly excited about the upcoming months! The new Batman: Caped Crusader and the second season of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are definitely at the top of my list.

Hey there fellow gaming enthusiast! August 2024 is shaping up to be an exciting month for us TV junkies. I can’t wait to dive into a smorgasbord of fresh series and old favorites hitting our screens! Got any clue what you’ll be tuning in for? If you’re still deciding, then look no further because you’ve landed on the perfect spot!

In today’s fast-paced world, streaming services have revolutionized the entertainment landscape! With busy schedules dominating our lives, it’s a relief that we no longer have to adhere to strict broadcasting times for our favorite shows. Gone are the days of missing an episode or two and being lost in the plot. Streaming platforms ensure that fresh episodes are readily available for us to watch whenever we want. However, waiting too long can lead to spoilers popping up on social media, so it’s important not to get too far behind.

In this article, we’ve rounded up the most exciting new and returning shows across Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Apple TV+, NBC’s Peacock, Hulu, and HBO/Max. No matter which streaming service you’re hooked on, you’ll find something to enjoy! Here’s a sneak peek at what each platform has in store for you.

29 new and returning shows to stream in August 2024

Netflix

  • A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season 1, Aug. 1
  • Love is Blind: Mexico, Aug. 1
  • Unstable season 2, Aug. 1
  • The Umbrella Academy season 4, Aug. 8
  • Terminator Zero, Aug. 29

On Netflix, I’m particularly looking forward to the series “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” which is adapted from Holly Jackson’s novel of the same name. The narrative revolves around Pip Fitz-Amobi, played by Emma Myers, who undertakes an investigation into the murder of a local school girl when she feels that the police have not done enough to seek justice. “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” will release all six episodes on Aug. 1, and it also features Zain Iqbal and Asha Banks in prominent roles.

I’ll additionally catch up with “The Umbrella Academy” during its fourth season, which airs on August 8th on Netflix. Despite losing interest in the show following the second season, I still have a strong desire to complete my viewing of it until the final episode.

Prime Video

  • Batman: Caped Crusader season 1, Aug. 1
  • Judy Justice season 3, Aug. 5
  • The Mallorca Files season 3, Aug. 8
  • Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2, Aug. 29

Transitioning to Prime Video, I can’t hide my excitement for the upcoming episodes of “Judy Justice” season 3. While it might serve as background TV for many, the peculiar cases and Judge Judy’s unique handling of them always manage to captivate me. Additionally, I’m eagerly awaiting the new animated series, “Batman: Caped Crusader”, along with the much-anticipated second season of “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”.

Paramount+

While Paramount+ might not boast a vast array of content in August, we still value its movie collection. However, despite our belief in prioritizing quality over quantity, this instance seems to buck the trend. In simpler terms, when evaluating TV content, Paramount+ doesn’t quite make it to the top tier; instead, it falls towards the lower end of the spectrum in terms of quality.

As a child of the ’80s and ’90s, I can confidently say that the revival of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brings back a flood of nostalgia. Growing up with the original series, I remember the excitement of waiting for new episodes and rushing home to watch them. The action-packed, silly adventures of these turtle ninjas were a huge part of my childhood. If you or your kids are fans of the latest animated movie “Mutant Mayhem,” then this new take on the TMNT is a must-see!

  • PD True season 1, Aug. 6
  • Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles season 1, Aug. 9
  • RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars season 1, Aug. 16

Apple TV+

In this particular streamer, quality takes center stage rather than volume, and Apple TV+ has been consistently successful with one hit series following another! Admittedly, August seems to have a slower pace, but the anticipation for what’s coming next is definitely worth it.

To begin with, you’ll find that Yo Gabba Gabba will undoubtedly hold children’s attention until they return to school. Moreover, I can confirm that fans have eagerly anticipated the second season of Pachinko, which is set to air on the streaming platform at the end of August on Aug. 23. Lastly, but by no means least, Bad Monkey has become my top pick for this month. This series boasts stars like Vince Vaughn, Michelle Monaghan, and Jodie Turner-Smith. The plot is adapted from Carl Hiaasen’s book with the same title, following the story of Andrew Yancy, a restaurant inspector who used to be a detective, drawn back into action upon discovering a severed arm.

  1. Yo Gabba Gabbaland season 1, Aug. 9
  2. Bad Monkey season 1, Aug. 14
  3. Pachinko season 2, Aug. 23

Peacock

  1. Mr. Throwback, Aug. 8
  2. Bel-Air season 3, Aug. 15
  3. Love Island USA season 6 reunion, Aug. 19
  4. Homicide: Life on the Street, Aug. 19

If you’re familiar with me, you’re aware that I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of Love Island USA‘s season 6 reunion! It’s no surprise that this season has been a massive hit, leaving fans craving more insights into the drama. I have a hunch that unseen footage will be unveiled during the reunion, and I can hardly contain my excitement for the stir it’ll undoubtedly cause.

1) I’ve added ‘Bel-Air’ season 3 to my list of shows to watch next, and I can’t wait to find out what all the excitement is about! Additionally, I plan on streaming the critically-acclaimed series ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’, which will be making its streaming debut for the first time on August 19th. The entire collection of 122 episodes will be available then.

Hulu

  1. Dance Moms: A New Era season 1, Aug. 7
  2. Solar Opposites season 5, Aug. 12
  3. Reasonable Doubt season 2, Aug. 22
  4. Only Murders in the Building season 4, Aug. 27

There hasn’t been a request from us for another “Dance Moms” series, but it’s on its way for those who might be interested. Personally, I’m all set to enjoy “Only Murders in the Building,” with the anticipated laughs and intrigue courtesy of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. As for “Reasonable Doubt,” although I haven’t watched it before, I’ll be catching up on season 1 before season 2 premieres on Aug 22 – here’s to hoping I make it through!

HBO/Max

  1. Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes, Aug. 3
  2. Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears, Aug. 6
  3. Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth?, Aug. 8
  4. Industry season 3, Aug. 11
  5. Chimp Crazy, Aug. 18
  6. City of God: The Fight Rages On, Aug. 25

Here’s something I didn’t expect to see, HBO and Max to have so many shows (compared to its competitors) coming out. Through August 2024, HBO and Max are the platforms to watch if true crime is your jam. It’s my favorite genre, so I am super excited to dive in. Not to mention, there’s finally something for viewers who are not into sports to watch. My top pick? Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? on Aug. 8. Sports fans will surely be tuning in to stream Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears on Aug. 6.

From this list, what will you be streaming in August 2024?
