The Academy Award-winning thriller, Argo, directed by Ben Affleck, has now moved to its new streaming platform – Amazon Prime Video.
The movie can be viewed in the UK and Ireland, and it boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Victor Garber, Tate Donovan, Kyle Chandler, and Chris Messina, alongside Affleck.
First debuted in 2012, the movie “Argo” is centered around the true events of the Canadian Caper – an undercover operation approved by both the Canadian government and the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency that aimed to extract six American diplomats from Iran.

On November 4, 1979, a group of aggressors invaded the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Iran, capturing 66 American diplomats as hostages. However, amidst the turmoil, six Americans were able to escape and sought shelter with the Canadian ambassador.
The US government, aware that the refugees are at risk of being discovered and possibly executed, enlists the help of undercover operative Tony Mendez (Affleck) to save them. To carry out this mission, Mendez devises a strategy where he pretends to be a Hollywood film producer searching for locations in Iran, while training the refugees to pose as his movie crew.

After the premiere of Argo, the movie proved to be a hit at the box office and gained numerous positive reviews, earning three awards – notably Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay – at the 85th Academy Awards in 2013.
At present, the movie has earned a Certified Fresh rating of 96%, based on 360 reviews, on Rotten Tomatoes. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, it’s not only captivating but also unexpectedly humorous.
The closing part of the film is so suspensefully intense, due to a clever blend of acting, scriptwriting, and cross-editing, that it positions Affleck as a top-tier director according to TheWrap.

In our assessment, we referred to Argo as a “powerful victory” and a “nearly perfect suspense film with a witty and clever tongue,” while The Hollywood Reporter labeled it a “top-notch political thriller.
If you prefer comedy-horrors over thrillers, then perhaps Prime Video has something for you – the recently added movie titled “The Monkey“. This movie is an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, where it delves into the lives of twin brothers who find their world turned upside down by a murderous plaything.
Argo is now streaming on Prime Video in the UK & Ireland.
