The 2021 film Mass was critically acclaimed, with many, including us, calling it exceptional. It received a remarkable 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Good news for those who want to revisit the story – a new version is coming out in April.
Set in a church’s back room, the film Mass focuses on two couples meeting to discuss a devastating event. As they talk, painful memories emerge and they begin to lower their guard, hoping to bridge the gap created by an unimaginable tragedy.
If you missed it, the movie is currently streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW with a Cinema membership. And now, you’ll soon have another way to experience the story – the Donmar Warehouse is planning a new stage adaptation of Mass for their 2026 season.
What to Read Next
I’m so excited for this! Fran Kranz, who wrote and directed the original movie, has actually turned his screenplay into a stage play. And get this – Carrie Cracknell is making her debut at the Donmar directing it! Plus, Monica Dolan from Sherwood and Paul Hilton, who I loved in Slow Horses, are going to be starring. It sounds like it’s going to be a really moving experience, and I can’t wait to see it!
I’m so excited about this production of Mass! The cast is incredible – Adeel Akhtar, Amari Bacchus, Lyndsey Marshal, Rochelle Rose, and Susie Trayling are all going to be in it. It’s running at the Donmar Warehouse from April 18th to June 6th, and tickets are available now for Donmar supporters. If you’re not a supporter, they go on general sale on February 6th – I’m setting a reminder right now!

The new show Mass isn’t the only premiere at the Donmar with ties to film. Actor Russell Tovey will also star in the thriller The Guilty, which is based on the movies Den Skyldige (2018) and The Guilty (2021). The play follows a police officer handling a frantic emergency call while working the night shift.
From June 20th to August 15th, you can see The Guilty. Following that, A Month in the Country will be performed again from August 22nd to October 3rd. Finally, the brand new play Ilford Boy, a drama for families, will premiere from October 10th to November 28th.
Donmar Warehouse’s latest season, like those before it, aims to bring people together through compelling stories. From the emotional journey of parents in Mass to the suspense of The Guilty, the romance of A Month in the Country, and the relatable experiences in Ilford Boy, these productions are designed to create shared moments and celebrate our common humanity, according to Artistic Director Tim Sheader and Executive Director Henny Finch.
You can see ‘Mass’ at the Donmar Warehouse from April 18th to June 6th. It’s also streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW if you have a Cinema membership.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant, full-colour 100-page magazine dedicated to Taylor Swift, is now available! You can purchase it at newsagents or online for only £8.99.
