NCIS: Sydney Season 2 Finale: The Shocking Bluebird Twist That Changes Everything!

Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS: Sydney episode “Sting in the Tail” are ahead!

The second season of the TV series NCIS: Sydney has concluded, with the final episode revealing the appearance of the major villain for this season and the team successfully thwarting their evil plot. However, the finale didn’t wrap up on a completely positive note as Mavournee Hazel’s character Bluebird Gleeson returned home to find a woman there who she did not seem pleased to see. Clearly, NCIS: Sydney Season 3 will explore this development further, and I’m curious about showrunner Morgan O’Neill’s hints about the changes in Blue’s life.

During an interview with TVLine discussing the ending of Season 2, O’Neill remained tight-lipped about the identity of the woman in Blue’s apartment. However, he did clarify that she isn’t simply Blue’s long-lost mother.

Indeed, this production surpasses the strained relationship between the protagonist and her estranged mother. Trust me on this one. For those who recall Season 2 vividly, pay close attention to Blue’s character arc as it unfolds. You might find some intriguing insights into their complex dynamics.

As Morgan O’Neill predicted during our pre-season chat for NCIS: Sydney Season 2, we delved into Blue’s past, piece by intriguing piece. In “Shucked,” she confided in Doc Rosie that she was unaware of her actual birthdate. Later, in “Breathless,” it became clear that Blue had a deep comprehension of the manipulative control her singer father exerted over her, as O’Neill put it.

It appears as if the woman who entered Blue’s apartment when she was absent might be linked to the forensic scientist’s mysterious past. When TVLine’s Matt Mitovich mentioned the numerous locks on Blue’s door, O’Neill added:

The locks on the door represent several clues about her. For instance, she refused to be photographed at the concert, she doesn’t have a digital footprint, and she asked Doc in Darwin to examine some items for her in a professional manner when they returned to Sydney. These events can be seen as scattered pieces of information, and this woman, in many aspects, is a compilation of these various breadcrumbs.

More NCIS: Sydney Coverage

Stepping into the shoes of a dedicated film critic, allow me to share my thoughts on the thrilling premiere of NCIS: Sydney Season 2. This episode unveiled a significant revelation about Agent Mackey’s past, adding yet another layer of intrigue to her character. The showrunner revealed that this backstory serves to intensify the pressure on our protagonist, making each subsequent scene even more captivating for viewers.

After experiencing intense situations on NCIS: Sydney, as Deshawn and Evie were put through the wringer, the actors shared their thoughts on how these events could shape their characters moving forward.

The unique circumstances that led to this woman discovering Blue were that she recognized him from a picture in a newspaper article, which detailed about a man who had caught a $1 million barramundi using Doc Rosie’s fishing rod. This image helped identify Blue’s location, causing the woman to exclaim, “I’ve been searching for you.” The youngest character on the main cast of NCIS: Sydney could only gape in astonishment before the scene ended and the episode concluded with a blackout.

Previously in the interview, Mitovich hinted that the female character might belong to a questionable hacker group which Bluebird was once associated with. However, O’Neill refrained from verifying or denying this speculation. Instead, he revealed that Season 3 will feature an exhilarating episode early on, resolving all these uncertainties. Additionally, he mentioned that there will be a temporal shift between Seasons 2 and 3, but it won’t occur too far into the future.

Both NCIS and NCIS: Origins are set to come back in the fall, along with the Paramount+ exclusive series NCIS: Tony & Ziva. However, it’s unclear when NCIS: Sydney Season 3 will air on both Paramount+ and CBS. One thing we do know is that the enigma of Bluebird Gleeson won’t be prolonged; it appears the solution to this mystery will come fairly soon instead.
