Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS: Sydney episode “Sucker Punch” are ahead!
I’ve been watching NCIS: Sydney Season 3, and so far, William McInnes’ character, Roy “Rosie” Penrose, has mostly been doing his job as the forensic pathologist and helping to find the missing Mavournee Hazel, nicknamed Bluebird Gleeson. But tonight’s episode really put Rosie in the spotlight – and it wasn’t easy. “Sucker Punch” hit him hard, both physically and emotionally. I’m really hoping that the fallout from this will bring him and Blue closer together in future episodes. I’m definitely invested in seeing their relationship develop!
What Happened To Rosie In “Sucker Punch”
During the autopsy of the NCIS: Sydney victim, Dr. Alan Bridges, both Rosie and Blue were accidentally splashed with blood. Blue had come by to report that Dr. Bridges hadn’t been drinking before his death. Rosie quickly realized something was wrong with the body and activated the biohazard alarm. It turned out Dr. Bridges had contracted a lab-created strain of Ebola that kills within six to eight hours, meaning Rosie and Blue needed to be quarantined due to the risk of transmission through bodily fluids.
More on NCIS: Sydney

The actors from NCIS: Sydney recently had a playful off-screen reunion with Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, stars from the original NCIS. Fans are now hoping to see this enjoyable connection happen within the show itself.
The latest episode of NCIS: Sydney brought some good news for Blue and Trigger, but the way it ended left viewers, including me, feeling uneasy.
If you didn’t get a chance to watch the latest episode of NCIS: Sydney, you can stream it on Paramount+. The episode reveals how Bridges was intentionally infected with Ebola. Importantly, while Blue tested negative, Rosie did test positive, but surprisingly refused medical treatment at first. Luckily, Blue convinced him to accept treatment once antibodies were found and a cure was developed.
Rosie was initially hesitant to accept help because of a personal tragedy: his wife, Alice, had passed away. As revealed in Season 1 of NCIS: Sydney, Alice had been living with dementia and was in a care facility. Viewers might have anticipated this, as Rosie asked someone to notify him of any changes regarding Alice in the previous episode. Sadly, those changes turned out to be her death.
Why I Hope This Can Lead To Something Good Between Rosie And Blue
Rosie and Blue have had a close connection from the start, likely because they work together so often. Blue clearly looks up to Rosie, even calling him family when she met her grandmother in the episode “True Blue.” And as mentioned before, Rosie was very concerned about Blue after the end of NCIS: Sydney Season 2, going so far as to enter her apartment to try and find out where she’d gone.
It’s understandable that Rosie is deeply affected by his wife’s passing – losing someone you’ve spent decades with is incredibly difficult. He’ll really need his friends right now, and I’m confident Blue will be his biggest support. Hopefully, this shared experience will bring them closer, with Rosie perhaps seeing Blue as a daughter figure, similar to the relationship between Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Abby Sciuto on NCIS.
We don’t yet know exactly how many episodes will be in NCIS: Sydney Season 3. The last episode scheduled for 2025, “Turkey Shoot” (airing December 9th), isn’t marked as the season finale, suggesting more episodes will likely air in early 2026. I’m hoping the show will also focus on the growing bond between Rosie and Blue, and show them supporting each other even more.
