NCIS Season 21 DVD review: Take a look at what you get on the boxset

As a die-hard fan who has been following the exploits of the NCIS team since their very first case, I must say that Season 21 is a testament to the enduring appeal of this iconic show. The writers have once again managed to weave a gripping tale, keeping us on the edge of our seats with each twist and turn.

As summer winds down, it’s time for the release of our beloved TV shows on DVD. The new season of NCIS, specifically Season 21, will hit the shelves on August 13th. We managed to secure a copy to give you our take on it. This is definitely worth adding to your collection.

In the opening of NCIS Season 21, the team is working hard to assist Torres, who was last seen in Season 20 uncovering someone from his past. He had contemplated abandoning his career and personal liberty for retribution, but ultimately decided against it. Unfortunately, the individual met an untimely end, with all clues implicating Torres as the suspect.

During that particular season, we bid farewell to the character of Ducky, as actor David McCallum passed away in September 2023. To pay homage to him on the show, the writers chose to write off Ducky’s character. This was skillfully done by creating a heartfelt tribute episode and presenting one final case for Ducky to solve – rest assured, it wasn’t his own passing that was depicted.

NCIS Season 21 DVD review

Just as anticipated, the NCIS Season 21 DVD encompasses all ten episodes from that season. Indeed, the number of episodes is limited to ten because of the labor strikes that occurred during the summer of 2023.

Additional content beyond the standard runtime totals over half an hour, which is quite substantial. My personal pick from these extras is titled “Farewell, Ducky: Honoring David McCallum“. McCallum was the longest-standing original cast member of the show, and his influence on the narrative cannot be understated. Although Ducky’s screen time has diminished in recent seasons, he remains the series’ core. It was only fitting for the production team to create a touching farewell tribute, which I must say is exceptionally well-executed. To preserve the surprise and enjoyment of the content, I won’t disclose any spoilers; instead, I encourage you to watch it with an open mind first.

Additionally, we’ll examine the thrilling stunts designed for the series. This entertaining behind-the-scenes video showcases the intricate planning involved in executing fight scenes, car chases, and other action sequences. Notably, the Season 21 finale featured some impressive stunt work as Knight and Palmer found themselves trapped on a sinking ship.

Additionally, you’ll find a segment named “Ruah’s Rules“, offering insights into the guidelines Daniela Ruah establishes when directing episodes. More precisely, it delves into the directing rules she implemented for the NCIS and NCIS: Hawaii episodes this season. I find Daniela Ruah fascinating, so observing her on-set activities and understanding her creative process is truly enjoyable!
