NCIS Paves The Way For Tony & Ziva’s MCRT Comeback

It’s now possible for Tony DiNozzo Jr. and Ziva David to return to NCIS. Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo famously played the beloved couple on the CBS show, and their romance became the model for other relationships within the NCIS universe. But fans never connected with any other pairing quite like they did with Tony and Ziva.

Tony and Ziva were instantly a fan-favorite pairing on NCIS, with a playful and obvious connection. Both characters were strong on their own, and they were key members of Gibbs’ team during the show’s most popular seasons. When Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly left the series, it was a huge blow to the show and its audience.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva’s Cancelation Allows Weatherly & De Pablo To Appear In The Flagship Together

Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo reprised their roles as Tony and Ziva in the 2025-2026 TV season with the series NCIS: Tony & Ziva. This was the first NCIS spinoff to stream on Paramount+, and it followed the couple’s adventures throughout Europe, independent of the main NCIS team. However, Paramount+ has decided not to renew the show for a second season, meaning it will not return.

Okay, I was pretty disappointed at first, but I’ve realized there’s a bright side! With Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo no longer tied to other projects, NCIS actually has a real chance to reunite Tony and Ziva back at the Navy Yard. We’ve seen hints that they’ve both been around the MCRT headquarters separately over the years, so now that they’re together, it would be pretty easy for the show to write a story that brings them both home for good. As a long-time fan, I’m really hoping they take this opportunity!

What Are The Chances That Tony & Ziva Rejoin MCRT?

Just because Tony and Ziva are back at Navy Yard doesn’t guarantee they’ll rejoin the MCRT team. From a storytelling perspective, bringing them back to their old lives would erase the happy life they’ve built in Paris, which would be disappointing for viewers. Plus, the current team led by Alden Parker is already successful, so adding Tony and Ziva would require a major change to the show’s direction.

I really hope CBS considers bringing Tony and Ziva back together with McGee and the rest of the team! Seeing them all work a case again, even a short one, would be amazing and feel so right – it honestly felt like something that NCIS: Tony & Ziva could have been. It would also fit so well with what season 23 of NCIS is already doing, playing on all that nostalgia. Of course, it would be incredible if Gibbs could join them too, but even if that doesn’t happen, I’d be thrilled just to see Tony and Ziva reconnect with the team again.
