While the new series NCIS: Origins has made a few small changes to established NCIS history, it’s largely stayed true to the original timeline. I was pleased to hear they were casting a younger version of Dwayne Pride, Scott Bakula’s character from NCIS: New Orleans, since that’s when he and Leroy Jethro Gibbs knew each other. We now know who will play young Pride, and I’m really looking forward to seeing him in the show.
Shea Buckner, known for his role as one of the Caccimelio brothers in Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building (available on Hulu), will be playing Dwayne Pride in a new NCIS prequel. According to Deadline, this version of Pride is set in the early 1990s and shows him as a probationary special agent working at the NIS office in Panama. An upcoming episode, titled Origins, will air later in Season 2 and will feature Pride, played by Buckner, and Austin Stowell’s Gibbs working together on an undercover mission and resolving past conflicts.

You might recognize Buckner from shows like Only Murders in the Building, The Equalizer, The Blacklist, and FBI. He’s now joining the NCIS universe to play a prominent role previously held by Scott Bakula, who starred as Dwayne Pride in NCIS: New Orleans for seven seasons, after first appearing in NCIS Season 11. Fans will also be happy to see some familiar faces from that era, characters who often worked alongside Gibbs and Mike Franks.

While NCIS: Origins featured some of my favorite scenes with Randy and Mike Franks, the storyline involving Lala’s character, Flaco, became unexpectedly strange.
The recent NCIS crossover event was a real highlight for fans of Mark Harmon’s character, Gibbs. I discovered how he became involved with the show and what’s happening with his character now.
Following the season one finale of NCIS: Origins, co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal revealed that season two would delve into the history of the “Fed 5” – the team comprised of Gibbs, Pride, Mike Franks, Dan McLane, and Felix Betts, who worked together to catch the Privileged Killer and remained active until 1994. Monreal recently hinted that the show would explore this group, but not in the way viewers might expect. Now, reports indicate that Dan McLane and Felix Betts will appear in an upcoming episode focused on Pride.
CBS is currently casting actors for two key roles in the upcoming series NCIS: Origins. Both characters are in their 40s. One, named McLane, is described as intelligent, commanding, and traditionally masculine, and he’s transferring from the NIS office in Panama, much like Dwayne Pride. The other, Betts, is a cheerful and meticulous auditor from the Los Angeles NIS office with an exceptional ability to analyze paperwork and uncover crucial clues. The series will focus on the formation of a five-person team – the “Fed 5” – tasked with dismantling a weapons smuggling operation. McLane will lead the team, while Betts will use his unique talent for navigating complex documents to help solve cases.
If you have a Paramount+ subscription, you can watch “Crescent City” to find out what happens with Dan McLane and Felix Betts. I’m happy these characters will appear alongside Shea’s Buckner’s Dwayne Pride. Currently, these three are only scheduled for one episode, but if NCIS: Origins continues for a while, it would be simple to bring them back. I’d especially like to see the story of how they caught the Privileged Killer, even if it turned out they arrested the wrong person.
