The pair, who have been wed for almost six years, made an exhilarating announcement about their upcoming baby on a joint Instagram post featuring Sports Illustrated Swimsuit on Saturday.

The influential duo, Balapat and Missy Lyssa Michelle, are preparing for an unforgettable journey as they venture into parenthood together.

In simpler terms, the well-known Australian basketball player, aged 36, from the LA Clippers, together with Alyssa, a 34-year-old American swimsuit designer, shared that they are expecting a baby girl, due in August.

Later, the celebrated basketball player shared a video on his Instagram Story, featuring his wife proudly displaying her expanding belly while dancing, all set to tunes he was spinning from behind the DJ booth.

The news of the pregnancy arrives amidst rumors suggesting the Brisbane Bullets may be planning to bring Patty back to Australia during the 2025-2026 season.

It’s possible that the Australian athlete might return home, as he seems keen on taking on the role of fatherhood.

In a conversation with Sports Illustrated, this five-time Olympic athlete – who traces his roots back to Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander communities – shared that he and his spouse aspire to provide their daughter with a similar cultural upbringing as the one he experienced himself.

He explained to the publication that everything Alyssa learned, be it dancing, singing, or traditional crafting skills in the kitchen, was passed on to her from the aunts during her upbringing, just as I was taught when I was young in the Torres Strait.

‘An island way of life is very much a part of her life now.

His mother Yvonne was a part of the Stolen Generations and Mills is a strong anti-racism advocate. 

Fueling speculation that the basketball legend might come back to Australia, many fans see Patty’s desire to raise his daughter in his native culture as a sign that he may be planning to return home shortly.

Alyssa hails from North Carolina and had a college basketball career before meeting Mills during their time as students at St. Mary’s College in California.

Given that his wife is now a resident of California, it’s uncertain where Patty might decide to establish his family and further his basketball career.

2021 saw the disclosure that Patty, in a quiet manner, has been generously contributing substantial parts of his NBA earnings to underprivileged indigenous groups nationwide.

The outspoken sports figure, known for championing various issues, has backed up his words with actions, giving away the 1.5 million dollars he received for playing in the NBA’s bubble during the pandemic in 2020 to organizations advocating for social justice.
