National Television Awards’ viewers slam Olly Murs’ medley performance and the ‘terrible’ sound quality
As a long-time television enthusiast, I must say that last night’s National Television Awards (NTA) was indeed a spectacle to behold! The public’s choice of Strictly Come Dancing as the Best Presenter honoree is a testament to the show’s enduring appeal. It seems that even after 20 years, the magic of sequins, glitter, and the cha-cha-cha still has us spellbound!
Viewers of the National Television Awards criticized Olly Murs’ performance due to problematic sound quality during the event on Wednesday night.
During the middle of the award show, being aired live on ITV, the English singer (aged 40) made an appearance to play some of his top hits such as “Troublemaker” and “Heart Skips A Beat.
Reminiscing on Simon Cowell’s iconic 2009 X Factor audition, it sparked a flurry of comments from his dedicated fanbase on the platform that once was known as Twitter. Many expressed their disappointment over the poor audio quality in their posts.
Original: Producer: Let’s have Olly Murs do a medley of his hits! Fellow Producer: And subject him to poor audio quality? Producer: Of course. #NTAs
‘This Olly Murs Medley is murder to our ears I fear, utterly abysmal, bring in the army #NTAs’;
‘Oh god not an olly murs medley #NTAs’;
‘Sorry to be blunt but …. that was s*** #NTAs #ollymurs’;
‘Is Olly Murs really the best performer they could get? #NTAs’;
‘The sound is terrible… #NTAs’;
As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but join the chorus of applause for the artist. One supporter wrote: “You nailed it, mate! Well done, you can really kick off a party…I truly hope I get to catch your live show next year. It’s been ages since I last saw you perform at Alton Towers #NTAs.
At the 2024 National Television Awards held at London’s O2 Arena, Ant and Dec received the Best Presenter award for an unprecedented 23rd time on Wednesday evening, topping the list of major winners.
During the event, Ant and Dec maintained their remarkable run of victories, but on this particular occasion, it was Mr. Bates who emerged as the triple winner, taking home three awards for the evening.
In recognition of his exceptional acting, Toby Jones received the award for Best Performance in a Serial Drama due to his highly praised portrayal in the show.
During his talk, the actor extended his well wishes to Sir Alan Bates, the actual Post Office campaigner, following his recent wedding to his long-term companion Susanne. The ceremony took place on Richard Branson’s personal island over the weekend.
He added: ‘This is an extraordinary project, brilliantly commissioned, directed with flare, and the best actors I could possibly hope to work with. I’m really honoured.’
The case between Mr. Bates and The Post Office once again brought focus on the subpostmasters who were unjustly accused during the Horizon IT scandal. This injustice was subsequently acknowledged when they received the ceremony’s Impact Award later that night.
Although marred by a year full of scandals and controversies, Strictly Come Dancing was still awarded the title for Best Talent Show at the National Television Awards on Wednesday evening.
Despite concerns about the future of the show due to allegations of abuse against dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima, Strictly Come Dancing managed to outshine Britain’s Got Talent, The Great British Bake Off, Masterchef, and The Voice by claiming one of the evening’s major awards.
The National Television Awards (NTAs) are determined by the general public, and the victory of Strictly Come Dancing in this year’s ceremony underscores that audiences continue to support the program as it gears up for its 20th season on Saturday evening.
Tess Daly, along with Claudia Winkleman, was accompanied by the show’s professional dancers and creative crew when they graciously received the award onstage.
In other news, The Chase snatched the prestigious Daytime award, leaving This Morning disappointed in its bid for victory on ITV1.
2021 proved difficult for the series, as Holly Willoughby left in October, subsequently replaced by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award was bestowed upon I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
Davina McCall fought back tears as she was awarded the Special Recognition Prize by her longtime friend Hannah Waddingham.
She expressed her gratitude profusely, saying it meant a great deal to her. She was at a loss for words, unsure of where to begin expressing just how thankful she was.
‘I really enjoy my work, and I’m grateful that I can share it with you. There may be parts of it that appeal to you, while others might not. By the way, I’ve had the opportunity to talk about turkeys, so I know a thing or two!’
In a moving moment, Kate Garraway graced the stage to receive the Authored Documentary award. This recognition went to her poignant program, Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story, which chronicles the struggle of her late husband against Covid-19.
The night was brought to a close with Emmerdale winning the prize for Serial Drama.
