As a seasoned lifestyle expert with decades of entertainment industry exposure under my belt, I must say that the opening number at this year’s National Television Awards left me both amused and intrigued. While I understand the mixed reactions from viewers regarding Joel Dommett’s performance, I find it essential to appreciate the courage and audacity it takes for a host to step out of their comfort zone and attempt something as daring as a musical number.
Host of the National Television Awards, Joel Dommett, amused viewers with an unusual display of his dance moves and singing abilities during a comical opening performance.
On the stage for the much-awaited awards event, the well-known TV personality, aged 39, was accompanied by a group of gifted dancers donning dresses reminiscent of the Charleston style, as he made his entrance to introduce the festivities.
However, despite his effort during the initial act, numerous spectators expressed disappointment and quickly flooded X with their opinions. Some of these posts included critical comments like:
‘I had no idea Joel Dommett couldn’t sing. #NTAs’;
‘Who on earth thought it was a good idea for Joel Dommett to sing and dance #NTA #NTAs’;

Oh dear, Joel Dommett! Someone should let him know… he’s not a jack-of-all-trades or universally skilled individual. That performance was tough to watch #NTAs
‘As much as I like Joel Dommett, I do wish was hosting these awards #NTAs’;
‘Is it just me or is Joel just not funny? #NTAs’;
‘Does anyone else find Joel Dommett annoying and unfunny, or is it just me? #NTAs’;
‘Me everytime I have to hear Joel’s voice #NTAs’;
‘#NTAs Please dont sing Joel…’;
‘Never let Joel Dommett sing again please #NTAs’.
Yet some fans appreciated the hilarious number, with one praising the TV host: ‘What an opening! Bravo!! Can we have an opening as iconic as that every year?! Good Luck to all those up for awards tonight. #NTAs #NTAAwards’.

2021’s National Television Awards will be held, as customary, at The O2 in London, Peninsula Square, and it will air live starting at 8pm on ITV.
For over a decade, starting from 2010, the NTAs (National Television Awards) have been held annually at The O2, except for the 2022 event, which was postponed and moved to Wembley instead.
Comedian Joel Dommett is hosting the awards ceremony for the fourth time.
This year, for the first time, Jungle King Sam Thompson and his companion Pete Wicks will be hosting live from the red carpet.
