This year, notable brands such as Coca-Cola and Millie’s Cookies have jumped aboard the initiative, contributing to its growth.

Following Cineworld’s announcement about shutting down six of their cinemas as a part of their reorganization strategy, National Cinema Day is scheduled to follow suit, potentially happening in September if the closure plans are accepted.

Previously, three Picturehouse cinemas – an art-house chain managed by Cineworld – had closed down, which was followed by recent news reports.

However, Vue Cinema’s CEO, Tim Richards, has made it clear that the company has no plans to shut down any of its movie theaters, providing comfort to cinema-goers.

National Cinema Day takes place on Saturday, August 31.
