National Cinema Day returns with £4 cinema tickets across the UK
Ah, the sweet symphony of cinema is about to serenade us once more! As a lifelong cinephile who’s seen more films than I care to count, let me tell you, National Cinema Day is not just another day on the calendar, it’s a celebration of shared experiences, popcorn-laden memories, and the sheer magic that only the silver screen can provide.
As a movie enthusiast who grew up in a small town where cinemas were few and far between, National Cinema Day is always a special occasion for me. The chance to watch a film at such a discounted price not only brings joy but also makes going to the movies more accessible. I remember saving up for weeks just to be able to afford a ticket, so £4 tickets across the UK next weekend will make a significant difference in many people’s lives. It’s an excellent opportunity to discover new films or revisit old favorites with family and friends without breaking the bank. I can’t wait to see what this year’s National Cinema Day has in store!
On Saturday, August 31st, National Cinema Day – an event backed by Cinema First, the Film Distributors’ Association, and the UK Cinema Association – will unfold in over 630 cinemas scattered throughout the United Kingdom.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement to share that tickets will be going for an unbelievable £4 across all formats – yes, you read it right, 3D, IMAX, and 4DX included! This incredible deal is available at the leading UK cinema chains, as well as a host of smaller operators and venues. So grab your popcorn, settle in, and get ready for an unforgettable cinematic experience at an irresistible price!
Are you planning to watch some of this year’s blockbusters such as Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2? Or perhaps you might discover a new favorite among the recently-released films like Blink Twice, Alien: Romulus, and Kneecap?

2022 marked the debut of National Cinema Day, with a staggering 1.46 million moviegoers attending screenings on that day. The following year saw an even more impressive figure of 1.56 million admissions. This year, notable brands such as Coca-Cola and Millie’s Cookies have jumped aboard the initiative, contributing to its growth.
“Iain Jacob, Chair of Cinema First, stated that National Cinema Day is increasingly turning into a significant cultural occasion in Britain, as it spreads the pleasure and camaraderie of movie-watching throughout the country.”
2023 offers us an unprecedented amount of backing, enabling us to present an exceptionally diverse selection of movies at unbeatable prices. Each passing year, this event continues to expand, captivating more and more cinephiles. We’re confident that 2024 will surpass all expectations.
Following Cineworld’s announcement about shutting down six of their cinemas as a part of their reorganization strategy, National Cinema Day is scheduled to follow suit, potentially happening in September if the closure plans are accepted.
Previously, three Picturehouse cinemas – an art-house chain managed by Cineworld – had closed down, which was followed by recent news reports.
However, Vue Cinema’s CEO, Tim Richards, has made it clear that the company has no plans to shut down any of its movie theaters, providing comfort to cinema-goers.
National Cinema Day takes place on Saturday, August 31.
