Nathan Fillion’s Hit 8-Part Crime Series Officially Dethrones Hulu’s Popular New Sci-Fi Thriller

Nathan Fillion‘s crime series succeeds on another assignment.

Nathan Fillion is currently enjoying a lot of success. He starred as the Green Lantern in James Gunn’s hit movie Superman (released in 2025) and will reprise the role in Man of Tomorrow in 2027. This year, he’ll also appear as Guy Gardner in the HBO series Lanterns. Plus, Fillion recently shared exciting news: his beloved sci-fi show Firefly is returning as an animated series.

Nathan Fillion has been consistently successful with his work lately. In addition to his recent projects, he continues to star as John Nolan in the hit police drama, The Rookie, which is currently in its eighth season. The show is doing well and fans are hoping it will be renewed for a ninth season.

As of today, The Rookie is the most popular show on Hulu in the US. Nathan Fillion’s police drama has taken the top spot from Paradise, the sci-fi series that had been leading on the streaming service for a while. Paradise fell to number three, with the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special coming in second place. It recently returned for its second season on February 23rd.

Viewership numbers for the latest season of The Rookie are in line with how critics have received it. Ana Dumaraog of ScreenRant gave the season 8 premiere a 9/10, calling it a “masterclass in network storytelling.” As of now, the show’s overall critic score on Rotten Tomatoes hasn’t been released.

Despite finishing its eight-season run, The Rookie is still attracting viewers and receiving positive feedback. Currently, it has a 60% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, though this is based on a limited number of reviews (under 50) and is likely to change as more people watch the season.

Season 8 of The Rookie will have 18 episodes total. Currently, 12 episodes are available, with the most recent, “Spy Games,” airing on March 23rd. In that episode, Bailey (played by Jenna Dewan) decides to return to Los Angeles.

As a big fan of both shows, I’m really looking forward to seeing how the final chart battle between The Rookie and Paradise plays out on Hulu. Paradise still has one episode left – season 2, episode 8 drops on March 30th – and The Rookie‘s next episode arrives just a day later on March 31st. It’s going to be close, and I’m curious to see which one will end up on top!
