Nate Diaz suing Fanmio, Julianna Pena vs. Kayla Harrison & Khamzat Chimaev's return

I, as a dedicated combat sports fan, am always keeping my finger on the pulse of the latest news and developments within the exciting world of MMA and other combat sports. In this daily column, I will be sharing with you my unique perspective on the biggest stories making waves in the scene.

In this new daily feature, I’ll share and analyze the latest combat sports news from various sources. Come back every morning for a breakdown of the day’s most significant or intriguing stories, along with my perspective on each topic.

Nate Diaz is suing Fanmio for $9 million

On July 6, Nate Diaz emerged victorious against Jorge Masvidal. However, barely two weeks after their fight, Diaz asserted that the promotion owes him a staggering $9 million which they have yet to pay. Fanmio, the promotion in question, refutes these allegations.

Based on my understanding of the situation, it seems that Diaz was expecting a significant payout for his fight with Fanmio, but unfortunately, the event didn’t generate as much revenue as anticipated. As a result, Fanmio allegedly couldn’t fulfill their financial obligations to Diaz and his wife. I must admit, this news does paint an unfavorable picture for Fanmio.

Julianna Pena accuses Kayla Harrison of PED

During an appearance on The MMA Hour, ex-UFC champion Julianna Pena accused Kayla Harrison of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). In response, Harrison recalled how she has undergone regular drug testing since her teenage years due to her background in Olympic sports.

Pena openly displays bullying behavior towards her opponents. It’s no secret that she has made allegations against some, implying their use of performance-enhancing drugs. Her insecurity about her own skills may lead her to establish an alibi if she were to lose in the future.

Khamzat Chimaev announces his comeback

Khamzat Chimaev has shared his plans for returning to UFC action, likely in October at a event in Abu Dhabi. The identity of his next opponent remains uncertain, but he expressed his desire to challenge for the title. With a perfect record of seven wins, Chimaev stated that no UFC fighter has achieved this feat without attempting to claim the championship. Despite White’s conflicting statements, negotiations are underway.

It’s pleasant news that Chimaev seems to be in good health once more, as I had been worried about his wellbeing due to his health complications. However, it’s wishful thinking on his part to expect a title shot after such a prolonged absence and last-minute withdrawal. If the prospect of fighting for the title is what’s holding him back, then we might never get to see him compete again.
