Natasha Hamilton reveals she was too ‘frightened’ to speak up about her post-natal depression in Atomic Kitten and how she hid her pregnancy from the group

Oh my gosh, I just read that Natasha Hamilton from Atomic Kitten was actually terrified to talk about how she was feeling after having her babies! Can you believe it? She said she was so scared, she kept her post-partum depression a secret while she was still in the band. It’s just so heartbreaking to think she went through all that and felt like she couldn’t say anything. I’m so glad she’s finally talking about it now, though. It’s amazing and so brave of her!

The singer, now 43, experienced post-partum depression after her son Josh was born in 2002.

The singer returned to work just six weeks after giving birth and quickly found touring very difficult.

Natasha said she was really struggling and no longer wanted to be part of the band.

She told OK! magazine that she began to feel very self-conscious, constantly worrying about her appearance – if she looked fat or was sweating too much. She also experienced a lot of physical discomfort, feeling out of breath and having pain in her ankles, knees, hips, and breasts – essentially, everything hurt.

‘But I never told anyone. I couldn’t say a word to anyone because I was just frightened.

I struggled with my mental health and found it really hard to manage. I experienced severe anxiety, which led me to move back home, and I felt lost about how to live independently.

Natasha got pregnant with Josh at 19, but she initially didn’t tell her band, Atomic Kitten, or their management.

After getting in trouble for falling asleep at the studio and then fainting in a store, she finally admitted what had happened.

By the time Josh was 18 months old, Natasha decided she couldn’t be in the band any longer.

When she left, the group went on break in 2004 because Liz McClarnon and Jenny Frost didn’t want to continue performing without her.

Natasha welcomed her daughter Kitty with husband Charles Gay in August 2023.

She is also mother to Harry, 20, Alfie, 14, and Ella, 10, from previous relationships.

The singer recently shared her honest feelings about feeling good in her own skin, especially after having her fifth child, in a post on social media.

The pop star shared a photo on Instagram from her Ibiza vacation, showing off her bikini body while holding a cocktail.

Sharing her thoughts on self-acceptance, she wrote: ‘If you’ve been following me for a while, your children are likely grown now… and you may have forgotten how challenging it was to adjust to life after having a baby and rediscover who you are.’

To be honest, I’ve been struggling for years, feeling lost and drained, and trying to rediscover who I once was.

This year made me realize I needed to prioritize what truly matters: my happiness. It sounds simple, but as someone who constantly worries and tries to control everything, actually feeling happy has been a challenge.

‘Therapy helps. So does talking honestly about the tough bits.

After having five children, I felt completely exhausted. A difficult emergency surgery following my daughter Kitty’s birth was deeply upsetting. I tried to appear okay, but I didn’t recognize myself anymore. I didn’t feel confident or attractive – I felt disconnected from my own body.

Filming ‘Edge of Us’ was supposed to be a positive experience, but instead, I felt insecure and self-conscious, forcing myself to appear confident. It was a difficult time that began a long process of healing and self-discovery.

‘It’s not about body shape. It’s about belonging. About acceptance.

Honestly, being at my husband’s event in Ibiza was a bit surreal. There were so many younger women around in bikinis, and while everyone else was soaking up the sun, I personally felt more comfortable keeping my cover-up on the entire time. It just felt right for me!

‘And you know what? That’s okay. I wasn’t quite ready then. But I’m getting there.’

‘Every day, I practice loving who I am. Not just Mama Bear. But Hot Mama too,’ Natasha added.
