Natalie Portman’s new thriller lands fresh Rotten Tomatoes score

As a huge fan of Natalie Portman’s acting abilities, I was absolutely thrilled when I heard she was starring in a new Apple TV+ series called “Lady in the Lake.” And let me tell you, my expectations were not only met but exceeded!

The critically acclaimed Apple TV+ show starring Natalie Portman, titled “Lady in the Lake,” has received positive feedback from initial reviews, resulting in a high rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the 1960s Baltimore setting, now streamable on our go-to platform, unfolds a seven-part thriller. The story introduces us to Maddie Schwartz, portrayed by an Academy Award winner, who is yearning for a change from her role as a mother and housewife. Her newfound ambition pushes her towards journalism, determined to make a mark as an investigative reporter.

While looking into the murder of an 11-year-old kid and a bartender named Cleo, played by Moses Ingram in “The Queen’s Gambit,” Maddie’s hidden past comes to light.

As a gamer, I can tell you that the impressive lineup of actors in this production doesn’t disappoint. Joining me on this adventure are Brett Gelman from “Stranger Things,” the legendary David Corenswet known for his role as Superman, the young talent Noah Jupe from “A Quiet Place Part II,” and Y’lan Noel, a familiar face from “Insecure.”

Currently, according to Rotten Tomatoes, Lady in the Lake boasts a new rating of 68%, based on 37 critiques.

Here’s what some of the critics have been saying:

Indie Wire

Similar to numerous projects that radiate an upbeat energy, if you’re not in sync with its beats, you might find yourself completely detached. However, this show is just as worthy of praise for defying conventions and its unwavering devotion to its main characters.

Washington Post

With just seven episodes, this adaptation strikes a nice balance between being extensive and engaging. While it may not cover as many perspectives as the original novel, it maintains an addicting pace, making for an enjoyable and captivating viewing experience.

The Times

As a gamer, I can tell you this: If the game’s oddities appeal to you, then buckle up! It only gets weirder from here. And although the early stages might give you the feeling that ambiance takes precedence over concrete elements, trust me, the mind-bending twists that unfold later are absolutely worth the journey.

The Hollywood Reporter

I would have preferred if the various elements in “Lady in the Lake” were more harmoniously blended together. The story should have effectively functioned as both an essay and a musical piece expressing emotions, and a suspenseful thriller all at once. Despite its unrealized goals, I was impressed by its ambitious attempts.

Lady in the Lake is available to stream now on Apple TV+.
