Natalie Dormer is donating her full salary from her role as Sarah Ferguson in an upcoming ITV drama to charities that support survivors of sexual assault.
The Duchess of York is currently in the news because a letter she wrote to Jeffrey Epstein has been revealed. In the letter, she apologized for publicly distancing herself from him after he was convicted of sexually abusing children.
The 43-year-old actress, who will portray Fergie in ‘The Lady’, stated that, due to the royal’s ‘inexcusable’ actions, she would not only forgo her salary but also stop promoting the show.
This drama tells the story of Jane Andrews, the Duchess’ former dresser, who was imprisoned in 2001 for killing her boyfriend. In 2000, Andrews, now 57, violently attacked and stabbed her partner, 39-year-old Tom Cressman, at their London apartment.
Natalie explained that after finishing the project, she learned things about Sarah Ferguson’s actions that she strongly disagrees with and finds unacceptable, making it impossible for her to continue supporting her.
Therefore, I’ve decided not to participate in promoting this project, as it aligns with my dedication to protecting children’s welfare.
She revealed to The Telegraph that she gave her full salary from the project to two charities: the National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) and the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse.
The series tells the story of Jane, a young woman from a working-class background in Grimsby, who unexpectedly landed a job as the Duchess of York’s dresser at Buckingham Palace after responding to an ad in ‘The Lady’ magazine, much to the surprise of those who knew her.
Jane successfully integrated into British high society, but after nine years of working for the Duchess, she lost her position.
Still recovering from a difficult period in her life, Jane met and quickly fell in love with the charming Thomas Cressman. However, their relationship soon began to fall apart, leading to painful results for Jane, who had invested all her hopes in it.
Jane and Fergie became close friends after Jane started working at Buckingham Palace in 1988. That same year, she also met Thomas, a former stockbroker, through a friend of a friend.

After the email became public, several organizations severed ties with Sarah, including the Teenage Cancer Trust, which removed her as their patron after 35 years of support.
On Monday, several organizations – including Julia’s House children’s hospice in Wiltshire and Dorset, Prevent Breast Cancer, The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, and the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals – announced they were ending their association.
The British Heart Foundation confirmed Sarah is no longer an ambassador for their organization. Similarly, Julia’s House stated it was no longer appropriate for her to continue her role as a patron, explaining that her communication with Epstein led to this decision.
The founders of The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, a food allergy charity, expressed their concern after reading Sarah’s messages with him. Sarah also stepped down from her position on the Youth Impact Council, a US charity dedicated to supporting young people.
According to reports, Sarah emailed an apology to Epstein following a threatening phone call in which he allegedly said he would ‘destroy’ her family.
In April 2011, despite having previously distanced herself from him publicly, the Duchess sent a message calling Epstein a ‘supreme friend’.
According to the Telegraph, James Henderson, who spoke for the Duchess at the time, said the email was sent following a disturbing phone call from a convicted sex offender. Henderson described the caller’s voice as chilling and similar to that of the character Hannibal Lecter.
Mr. Henderson reportedly stated that many people underestimate the extent of Epstein’s crimes, and he vividly remembers a specific phone call related to the case.
The phone call was really unsettling, and it makes me wonder how anyone could be friends with him after the way he spoke to me.
He stated his intention to ruin the York family and specifically targeted me for the same fate. He delivered this threat calmly, without raising his voice.
‘He had a Hannibal Lecter-type voice. It was very cold and calm and really menacing and nasty.’
He added that the woman likely faced immense pressure to safeguard her family, and that legal issues were probably involved.
This happened well before the Duke’s reputation was damaged by his connection to Epstein. It was fourteen years ago, and anyone in that situation would prioritize protecting their family. Her children and family will always be her top priority.
The phone call happened shortly after the duchess gave an interview to the Evening Standard on March 7, 2011, where she said she was sorry for accepting £15,000 from Epstein.
In an interview with the newspaper, Sarah stated she strongly condemns the sexual abuse of children and recognizes her involvement was a serious mistake. She expressed deep remorse and regret for her actions.
I intend to pay back the money as soon as possible and completely cut ties with Jeffrey Epstein, for good.
Just over a month later, the Duchess messaged Epstein, according to The Mail on Sunday, saying she understood he was very upset with her.
I sincerely apologize for any hurt I’ve caused you. You’ve consistently been a wonderfully supportive and giving friend to both me and my family.
I was strongly warned to avoid all contact with you – no talking, no emails. I was told that if I didn’t, it would cause trouble for you, the Duke, and for me personally. I felt completely devastated and lost.
I need you to understand, it wasn’t my intention to hurt Andrew again. I was absolutely terrified, and that fear took over everything. I truly am sorry for what happened.
After the charities announced their decisions on Monday, Virginia Giuffre’s family members expressed their support, calling it a strong and important step to end their association with Sarah.
Virginia Giuffre, who passed away in Western Australia at age 41 in April, was a prominent and vocal accuser of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.
In 2022, she reached a settlement in a lawsuit against Andrew, who she accused of sexually assaulting her at age 17 while she was a victim of sex trafficking by Epstein. Andrew maintained he had never met her and denied the allegations.
Virginia Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts, and his wife, Amanda Roberts, released a statement praising the decision of seven charities to end their association with Sarah Ferguson due to her links to Jeffrey Epstein.
This firm response clearly demonstrates that those who enable the terrible crimes of Epstein and Maxwell’s child trafficking network will be held responsible.
They also pointed out that this situation forces us to examine our own actions in the United States. Specifically, are we adequately denouncing those who help enable these crimes?
Let’s learn from these groups and actively work to safeguard those in need and ensure fairness for everyone.
According to their statement, Ms. Giuffre was let down repeatedly by the very organizations that should have been there to help her. They also praised the strong reaction from the charities involved.
Without official action from the government, it’s crucial that the public strongly denounce those who helped support Epstein’s terrible crimes of child sex trafficking in the United States if we want to achieve true justice.
In 2022, Andrew reached a multi-million dollar settlement with Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault on three different occasions.
Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in his jail cell in Manhattan in August 2019 while facing sex-trafficking charges.
