NASCAR: Why no more races until the middle of August?

NASCAR: Why no more races until the middle of August?

As a die-hard NASCAR fan with years of experience following the thrilling world of stock car racing, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and frustration all at once. Last weekend’s races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway were a much-needed dose of adrenaline for us fans, but now we find ourselves in a lengthy break with no action on the schedule for both the Cup Series and Xfinity Series.

Last weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series held races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time since 2020, marking the return of NASCAR to the 2.5-mile, four-turn oval in Indiana. The NASCAR Truck Series took place at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park during the same timeframe.

I’ve been an avid follower of motorsports for years now, and this upcoming weekend is particularly disappointing for me. None of the three major national series are racing, and it feels like a void in my weekly routine. And to make matters worse, they’re all taking a break next week too. It’s a double whammy that leaves me craving for the sound of engines revving and the thrill of competition. I guess we’ll just have to wait a little longer to get our fix.

Upcoming on the NASCAR calendar is the Clean Harbors 250 Truck Series race at Richmond Raceway on Saturday, August 10th evening. Following this, on Sunday, August 11th evening, the Cup Series will hold its Cook Out 400 event at the same Richmond, Virginia oval, which features four turns and a length of 0.75 miles (1.207 kilometers).

From that point forward, there are no more off weekends on the Cup Series schedule this year.

The Xfinity Series will hold its next race on the afternoon of August 17 at Michigan International Speedway, marked as the Cabo Wabo 250 on the schedule.

From that point forward, there are no more off weekends on the Xfinity Series schedule this year.

The Cup Series will hold races at the 2.0-mile, four-turn oval in Brooklyn, Michigan that weekend. The FireKeepers Casino 400 is planned for Sunday, August 18 afternoons.

Why is there such a lengthy break in the action as the playoff battles are heating up?

The main cause of the hiatus is the Summer Olympics taking place in Paris, France. NBC holds the rights to broadcast these games, and at present, NASCAR’s Cup Series and Xfinity Series are featured on NBC’s schedule.

In June, during the break between races at Sonoma Raceway and Iowa Speedway, the transition from Fox to a new media partner took place. The current media rights agreement, lasting ten seasons up to 2024, will be succeeded by a fresh seven-year deal that adds Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports as partners, starting in 2025.

As a long-time NASCAR fan and someone who has followed the Truck Series closely for years, I can tell you that it’s always been a delight to watch each and every race unfold live on Fox, Fox Sports 1, or Fox Sports 2. These networks have been the go-to platforms for fans like me, providing us with non-stop coverage and analysis of our favorite drivers and teams.

Before the racing action resumes at Richmond Raceway and Michigan International Speedway in a couple of weeks, begin enjoying a complimentary trial period with FuboTV to ensure you don’t miss out on any of the excitement!
