NASCAR: Watkins Glen playoff race not being broadcast on NBC

As a seasoned NASCAR enthusiast with over two decades of racing passion under my belt, I must admit that this year’s playoff schedule has certainly thrown a curveball at us fans. The shift of Watkins Glen International race date to the opening round of the playoffs adds an extra layer of excitement and unpredictability to the championship battle.

For the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season, Watkins Glen International’s race date has been moved from the regular season to the opening round of the playoffs, which means there will be two road course races in the first four rounds and ten races overall in the playoff series.

Among the venues on our postseason racing calendar, Watkins Glen is one of just three that didn’t see us race during the regular season. The other playoff road course is the infamous Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Interestingly, while the oval at Charlotte hosted the Coca-Cola 600, it wasn’t our usual stomping ground for the regular season.

Among all playoff venues, Homestead-Miami Speedway is the one that doesn’t appear in the regular season calendar. This track will not hold a race until the elimination round of 8.

Watkins Glen playoff race not on NBC

Since the Coke Zero Sugar 400 race at Daytona International Speedway last month, NBC has not broadcasted any live races, a situation that will persist for several more weeks.

Sunday afternoon’s 90-lap Go Bowling at The Glen at the eight-turn, 2.454-mile (3.949-kilometer) road course in Watkins Glen, New York is set to be shown live on USA Network, the NBCUniversal-owned alternate channel during NBC’s portion of the broadcast schedule.

For the next three events, the competition will air on USA Network. This is the second consecutive event not broadcasted by NBC, as they are currently in a break. However, starting from the race at Talladega Superspeedway in October and ending with the title-deciding race at Phoenix Raceway in November, NBC will resume its coverage for the remaining six events on the schedule.

Tune into USA Network this Sunday, September 15th at 3:00 p.m. ET as they broadcast live from Watkins Glen International for the Go Bowling at The Glen race. Last year’s winner, William Byron from Hendrick Motorsports, will be aiming to defend his title. For the complete starting lineup, check it out here.
