NASCAR: Two teams expanding to three cars for the Brickyard 400

As a die-hard NASCAR fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard that two teams, Richard Childress Racing and Legacy Motor Club, will be bringing back their third cars for this weekend’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The last time we saw a non-charter car on the track was during the race at Pocono Raceway, where NY Racing Team’s No. 44 Chevrolet was the only non-chartered entry. But this Sunday, we’ll have not one but two teams fielding extra cars!

At the NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway last Sunday afternoon, only one non-charter car was included in the entry list – the No. 44 Chevrolet of NY Racing Team. Unfortunately, this car will not be participating in this coming Sunday’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

As an excited fan, I can’t wait for this coming Sunday’s race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana! Marking the first Brickyard 400 event since 2020 on the renowned four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) oval, two teams are gearing up to make a splash by introducing third cars for their lineups.

As an avid racing fan, I’m thrilled to share that both Richard Childress Racing and Legacy Motor Club will each bring out three cars for the upcoming 160-lap race on Sunday.

Two teams bringing back third cars at Indy

The No. 33 Chevrolet and the No. 84 Toyota will each make their fifth and sixth appearances at Richard Childress Racing and Legacy Motor Club this season, respectively.

Ty Dillon is all set to race for his grandfather’s NASCAR Cup Series team for the first time since the 2015 final event at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He will be competing alongside his brother Austin and teammate Kyle Busch.

At Legacy Motor Club, Jimmie Johnson, co-owner and seven-time series champion, has been the sole driver of car No. 84 in this racing season. This arrangement will continue as he joins full-time racers John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones on the team.

I’m excited to share that only one other team will be bringing a non-charter car to the racetrack this weekend. MBM Motorsports is making a comeback for their sixth outing in the 2024 season. I’ll be cheering them on as they hit the track with B.J. McLeod at the wheel of car number 66, behind the Ford steering wheel.

McLeod debuted with Team Carl Long for the first time in May at Charlotte Motor Speedway, stepping in to fill the role of David Starr as a last-minute substitute.

McLeod, who has previously raced for MBM Motorsports in the Xfinity Series in 2015, will be the first driver to pilot the No. 66 Ford in both points-scoring events in 2024.

Listen to NBC at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, July 21 for a live transmission of the Brickyard 400 from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Sign up for a free trial of FuboTV right away and catch all the excitement from the Indy oval’s initial NASCAR Cup Series race in four years!
