NASCAR team confirms number change amid ongoing uncertainty

As a seasoned gamer who has been following NASCAR for the better part of three decades, I must admit that the shuffle at Front Row Motorsports has me both excited and a tad nostalgic. Todd Gilliland stepping up to the No. 34 Ford, a move that echoes the evolution of his career mirrors my own journey as a gamer, starting from the basics and gradually moving up the ranks.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excitedly sharing the news about a shift in my favorite NASCAR team, Front Row Motorsports. After veteran Michael McDowell announced his departure to join Spire Motorsports for the 2025 season, it didn’t take long for speculation to rise. And now, it’s official: Todd Gilliland is set to swap cars within the team.

Moving ahead, Gilliland will assume the role as the veteran driver for the Bob Jenkins-owned team, switching to drive the No. 34 Ford, having previously spent his initial three seasons in the Cup Series piloting the No. 38 Ford.

As a racer myself, I’m proud to be driving under the banner of my long-standing partner, Love’s Travel Stop. Born and raised in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, I’m excited that our partnership is set to continue for another season.

Last season, Gilliland had an outstanding year that placed him 22nd overall in the points standings, boasting four top-10 finishes and an additional 15 results within the top 20.

Front Row facing uncertain future

For the 2025 racing season, Front Row Motorsports plans to increase their fleet from two vehicles to three, following the acquisition of a charter from Stewart-Haas Racing. Similar to 23XI Racing, they are yet to finalize their future commitments as they haven’t signed the latest NASCAR charter contract, which leaves their future in question.

Noah Gragson is slated to join the team previously known as Stewart-Haas Racing, although they haven’t officially announced their third driver following their closure after the 2024 season. Zane Smith, who clinched a championship with them in the Truck Series in 2022, appears to be the frontrunner for this position.

As a gamer, I’m still unsure if I’ll be piloting the No. 38 Ford or the newly added No. 36 Ford in our team’s lineup. Over the years, we’ve occasionally fielded three cars, so it’s possible that the No. 36 might make an appearance. But for now, it’s all speculation.

The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series starts on Sunday, February 16, kicking off with the 67th annual Daytona 500. This exciting event will be broadcast live on Fox from Daytona International Speedway, starting at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
