NASCAR team changes drivers ahead of Atlanta playoff race

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours racing virtual cars and watching NASCAR in real life, I must say the driver rotation at Rick Ware Racing this year is as unpredictable as a game of Mario Kart on the highest difficulty setting! It’s like playing a game of musical chairs with drivers and charter cars.

Rick Ware Racing is among the two NASCAR Cup Series teams that have been switching drivers in a specific chartered car during the 2024 season, and they plan to make yet another driver swap before the playoff kickoff at Atlanta Motor Speedway this coming Sunday afternoon.

This weekend, Cody Ware is all set to take the track for his seventh race of the 2024 season, driving the No. 15 Ford. He’ll be competing in the Quaker State 400 presented by Walmart, a 260-lap race that takes place on the 1.54-mile (2.478-kilometer) oval track located in Hampton, Georgia, known for its four turns.

In his latest race at Daytona International Speedway two weeks back, he achieved the best position in his career so far, coming in fourth place.

Rick Ware Racing driver rotation

Kaz Grala participated in the final race of the regular season on Sunday night at Darlington Raceway, where he piloted the No. 15 Ford in a total of 16 races throughout the season.

It is anticipated that Grala will participate in six out of the ten playoff races, while Ware will join four. Grala is set to make a comeback next weekend at Watkins Glen International for the road course race, but a schedule for the No. 15 entry beyond that event has not been finalized as of yet.

Besides Ware and Grala, Riley Herbst is the single driver that has operated the No. 15 Ford during this season, and he managed it in four regular-season races. At present, there aren’t any further Cup Series races scheduled for Herbst this year.

As a gamer, I’m part of the unique crew at Kaulig Racing, the only team this season who’ve shared a charter entry. So far in 2024, five different drivers have manned the wheel of our No. 16 Chevrolet, but for the third week running, we’re sticking with our current driver.

Shane van Gisbergen will return to the track at Atlanta, and he’s all geared up for the upcoming race at Watkins Glen the following weekend as well.

Tune in to USA Network at 3:00 p.m. ET this Sunday, September 8 for the live broadcast of the Quaker State 400 presented by Walmart from Atlanta Motor Speedway. Start a free trial of FuboTV now and don’t miss the opening race of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs!
