NASCAR: Surprise driver change ends Kyle Busch rumor

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the twists and turns of virtual racetracks, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation as I watch the real-life NASCAR scene unfold. The news that Kyle Busch won’t be joining Spire Motorsports in 2025 might have dampened some fans’ spirits, but it’s clear that the veteran driver will continue to race with Richard Childress Racing for another year.

It became known that Corey LaJoie wouldn’t return with Spire Motorsports for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season, and Kyle Busch was rumored as one of the top contenders to take over driving duties for the No. 7 Chevrolet.

At the conclusion of the 2023 season, Kyle Busch handed over his Truck Series team, Kyle Busch Motorsports, to Spire Motorsports. In five racing events this year, he has represented them in the Truck division, securing two victories.

Beyond doubt, it is well-known that Busch has faced considerable discontent since his transition to Richard Childress Racing in his second year. Despite clinching three victories with the team in the initial part of the 2023 season, a downward spiral began during the latter half, and this struggle persisted into the following season of 2024.

As a gamer, I’ve been on a winning streak for nearly two decades in the Cup Series, but this year feels different. For the first time since 2012, I missed the playoffs. To add to that, if I don’t manage to clinch a victory in any of the seven races left on the 2024 schedule, it would mark the beginning of a new chapter for me – one without a win as a full-time driver. That’s because my win streak, which I extended to 19 seasons last year by breaking Richard Petty’s record of 18 consecutive winning seasons, could come to an end in 2024.

But Busch isn’t going to Spire Motorsports in 2025.

In the last few weeks, the gossip about Busch leaving Richard Childress Racing has significantly decreased. This is largely because his current contract extends through the 2025 season, effectively ruling out any possibility of him transferring to another team.

Spire Motorsports have decided not to wait until the end of the 2024 season to replace LaJoie.

After the 2023 season, Justin Haley has decided to switch teams from Kaulig Racing to Rick Ware Racing. Starting this Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway, he will take over the position previously held by LaJoie. Meanwhile, LaJoie is planning to move into the No. 51 Ford that was once occupied by Haley in Rick Ware’s team.

The return sees Haley back with Spire Motorsports, where he stands as their sole victor in racing events. In a shocking turn of events during his third career race in July 2019 at Daytona International Speedway, coincidentally in the team’s debut season in the Cup Series, Haley managed to secure a major victory.

Additionally, it secures the racing crew’s driver roster for the upcoming year, since Haley has received official confirmation from the management for the 2025 racing season too.

Michael McDowell is about to part ways with Front Row Motorsports following a seven-year stint, taking over Zane Smith’s position as driver of the No. 71 Chevrolet. Meanwhile, Carson Hocevar will be back behind the wheel of the No. 77 Chevrolet after an impressive debut season.

As anticipated, Busch will be back for his third year with Richard Childress Racing, driving the No. 8 Chevrolet. However, it’s unclear what his plans are for the year 2026, as his contract expires at the end of the following year.
