NASCAR race gets a location change for the 2025 season

As a seasoned NASCAR enthusiast with over four decades of watching paint scuff and rubber fly, I must say the news about the Busch Light Clash moving to Bowman Gray Stadium next year has me as excited as a pit crew member on the last lap! After witnessing the thrilling races at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the past three years, I’m eager to see how NASCAR will shake things up once again.

For more than four decades, the annual NASCAR Cup Series preseason Busch Light Clash exhibition race was contested at Daytona International Speedway ahead of the Daytona 500.

In 2021, the theory held up when the race was shifted to Daytona Beach, Florida’s interior road course instead of the usual high-banked oval. The road course spans 14 turns over a distance of 3.57 miles (5.745 kilometers).

2022 was an exciting year for me as a gamer, with NASCAR shaking things up by relocating their exhibition race to none other than the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, home of the USC Trojans football team. For the next three seasons, we raced on a custom-built, quarter-mile track nestled within this legendary stadium. The energy was electrifying!

NASCAR is once again set to race inside a stadium on a quarter-mile oval in 2025. But it won’t be the venue in Southern California.

For the first time in over half a century, NASCAR will be racing at Bowman Gray Stadium. The 2025 Busch Light Clash is planned for February 2nd, which falls on a Sunday, exactly two weeks before the start of the season with the Daytona 500.

As a die-hard racing enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the racetrack in Winston-Salem, North Carolina has been whispering its comeback story in NASCAR for quite some time now. Known to inspire the track inside Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum annually from 2022 to 2024, it’s finally getting its chance to shine once more. The rumors have been true – it’s going to host the annual preseason exhibition race next year!

From 1958 to 1971, the Cup Series held a total of 29 races at this track, however, it has not returned to the schedule since then. The last winner was Bobby Allison.

From 2006 to 2016, the location played host to certain K&N Pro Series East and Whelen Southern Modified Tour races. Notably, several current NASCAR Cup Series drivers participated in these events throughout this period.

In the first year of the new NASCAR media contract, the Busch Light Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium will kick off Fox’s live television coverage. Similar to the Daytona 500, this race will air on Fox rather than Fox Sports 1.
