NASCAR: Michigan race not being broadcast on NBC after rainout
Well, as a seasoned NASCAR enthusiast who’s seen more than a few races postponed due to Mother Nature’s whims, I can say that it’s become a bit of a tradition for me to adjust my Sunday afternoons when Michigan International Speedway is on the schedule. It’s like a dance – start the race, pause, resume, and finally reach the finish line on another day!
Once again this year, a NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway that had been planned for a Sunday afternoon was initiated as scheduled on Sunday, but it was ultimately postponed due to rain and rescheduled for the following day, Monday.
51 out of a total of 200 laps at the FireKeepers Casino 400 held in the four-cornered, 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) track in Brooklyn, Michigan, were completed on Sunday. This included the full 45 laps of the initial stage and six additional laps before a break during the second stage, which was later ended due to heavy rainfall.
On Monday, the final 149 laps will be held, and the yellow flag is expected to reappear approximately at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time. The green flag will follow shortly after, marking the resumption of racing action.
As a devoted racing enthusiast, I was thrilled to see Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney clinch stage one in a clever move. He chose to stay on the track while many others pitted during the caution flag period triggered by Denny Hamlin’s single-car spin from Joe Gibbs Racing. What a strategic move!
Following Blaney’s pit stop during the intermission between stages, Chase Elliott from Hendrick Motorsports took over as the race leader because he finished second in stage one. Now, he holds the leading position.
Postponed Michigan race not on NBC
1. One of the six main season races for FireKeepers Casino 400 is shown on USA Network. Since 2022, USA Network has been NBCUniversal’s substitute channel during NBC’s broadcast schedule, following the closure of NBC Sports Network at the end of 2021.
Despite the schedule adjustment, the race will still be broadcast on USA Network instead of NBC. Following this event, only one regular-season race remains for the year. This weekend’s race from Daytona International Speedway will be aired live on NBC, while the following Sunday’s race from Darlington Raceway will be shown live on USA Network.
USA Network will kick off the four-part, ten-race playoffs by broadcasting live coverage for four straight events. On the other hand, NBC will conclude the season by airing six consecutive races, culminating in the championship event at Phoenix Raceway in November.
Listen to USA Network at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time today for the live telecast of the restart of the FireKeepers Casino 400 from Michigan International Speedway. Sign up now for a free FuboTV trial and catch all the action!
