NASCAR losing a major partner after 2024, leaving only three
As a long-time NASCAR enthusiast with years of watching paint schemes and cheering for my favorite drivers, I was saddened to hear that GEICO will be leaving the sport after the 2024 season. The insurance company has been a staple in NASCAR since 2009, serving as the primary sponsor for Germain Racing’s No. 13 Chevrolet and even being the title sponsor of the spring race at Talladega Superspeedway, the GEICO 500.
2019 saw a change in the title sponsorship strategy for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series, opting to partner with four key brands as Premium Sponsors instead.
For three consecutive years now, the racing series went by the name Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series – a title it adopted from 2017 onwards, having previously been called the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Four brands – GEICO, Coca-Cola, Busch Beer from Anheuser-Busch, and Xfinity by Comcast – were chosen as NASCAR’s top partners for the Cup Series. However, one of these four partners will not renew their contract for the 2025 season.
GEICO out after 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season
After the 2024 season, it appears that GEICO will no longer be a Premier Partner in the Cup Series. Since 2009, this insurance company has been associated with NASCAR, and during that time, they were the main sponsor for Germain Racing’s No. 13 Chevrolet from 2009 to 2020.
2020 marked the end of operations for Germain Racing, who subsequently sold their charter to the newly formed 23XI Racing, co-owned by Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan. This team then made its NASCAR Cup Series debut in the year 2021.
GEICO has been the main sponsor for the spring race at Talladega Superspeedway, known as the GEICO 500, since 2015, having taken over the role from 2014 as the title sponsor of the fall race. Additionally, since 2016, GEICO has also been the title sponsor for the Restart Zone at the track. Initially, the deal only covered select venues, but it now includes all tracks.
2019 marked the time when GEICO and NASCAR reached an agreement prior to the reveal of the new Premier Partner sponsorship model, making GEICO the official Insurance Partner of NASCAR.
It remains undecided who will take over GEICO’s role as Premier Partner for the Cup Series in 2025 and onwards, as NASCAR has yet to make an official announcement. However, it’s expected that Coca-Cola, Busch Beer, and Xfinity will continue their partnership for a sixth consecutive year. The search is currently ongoing for a fourth partner to join the team.
The hunt for a replacement partner for GEICO in NASCAR had already started prior to its departure being officially announced, as a precautionary measure in case any of the initial four partners chose not to extend their contracts. However, no successful outcomes have been reported so far.
