NASCAR: Late car number change confirmed for the 2025 Daytona 500
Corey LaJoie secured a part-time position in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series with Rick Ware Racing, the team he ended the 2024 season with following a kind of exchange from Spire Motorsports involving Justin Haley.
Rick Ware’s team previously operated both the No. 51 and No. 15 Fords on a full-time basis, with LaJoie driving the No. 51 last year. However, they have decided to sublease one of their two charters to RFK Racing, a team they’ve had a technical partnership with since 2023. Now, they will only field the No. 51 Ford full-time, and Cody Ware has officially been named as its driver for the upcoming season.
But LaJoie will not drive the No. 15 Ford in 2025, even though the team have retained that number.
Rick Ware Racing not using No. 15 for Corey LaJoie
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that when LaJoie competes in 2025, he’ll be driving the No. 01 Ford, fitting with his Stacking Pennies brand. His first ride will be during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway, aiming to qualify for the prestigious Daytona 500 race.
From 2019 through 2024, I’ve been racing full-time in the Cup Series, and over that period, I’ve managed to participate in eight consecutive Daytona 500s, starting from 2017. Last year, I secured my best result yet, finishing fourth.
This year, he needs to make it into “The Great American Race” through either the individual qualifying round or one of the two Bluegreen Vacations Duel preliminary races. The car numbered 01 is one of nine unchartered (open) vehicles on the roster, and there are only four (or maybe five) open spots available for these cars in the main event.
The rest of LaJoie’s race schedule for the 2025 season has not yet been announced.
As a devoted fan, I’m excited to see Tim Brown behind the wheel of the No. 15 Ford this weekend at Bowman Gray Stadium for the Cook Out Clash. For the rest of the 2025 season, it remains unclear who else will be driving the car.
The live broadcast of qualifying for the Daytona 500, taking place at Daytona International Speedway, begins on Fox Sports 1 at 8:15 p.m. ET on Wednesday, February 12. Following this, the Bluegreen Vacations Duel races will air live on Fox from 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, February 13. The main event, the 67th Daytona 500, is set to be shown live on Fox starting at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 16.
