NASCAR: Jimmie Johnson losing a race from his 2024 schedule?

As a die-hard racing enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but marvel at the versatility and determination of Jimmie Johnson. The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion has proven time and again that he is not one to shy away from a challenge. His recent foray into the NTT IndyCar Series and his subsequent collaboration with NBC Sports for the broadcast of the Indianapolis 500, despite having to leave early due to a rain delay, showcased his unwavering dedication to the sport.

As a gamer myself, I felt the thrill when seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson hopped into the commentator’s seat for the Indy 500, the legendary race he also participated in during his one and only full season with the NTT IndyCar Series, all happening back in May of this past year.

Due to the necessity of participating in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday night, Johnson found himself needing to depart from Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of schedule because of a four-hour rain postponement before the start of the Indy 500.

In the year 2024, Johnson made his fifth race start of the season at the Coca-Cola 600. He’s not just a racer, but also a co-owner of the Legacy Motor Club team. Occasionally, he represents this team in different competitions.

Jimmie Johnson’s NASCAR schedule not reduced

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been thrilled to be a part of Johnson’s new motorsports coverage with NBC Sports! Next up, I’ll be joining the broadcast team for not one, but two upcoming races: first, at Talladega Superspeedway on October 6, and then at Phoenix Raceway on November 10. Can’t wait to share the excitement with all you racing fans!

This year, Johnson will drive the No. 84 Toyota a total of nine times, and one of those drives is scheduled for the season finale at Phoenix in November.

Despite the announcement about his NBC Sports responsibilities for that specific race weekend, it seems like nothing has altered regarding this matter. Interestingly, Johnson might participate in NBC Sports’ coverage for several races where he plans to compete later in the season as well.

It’s important to note that, similar to the Daytona race, Johnson’s upcoming races as part of the NBC team will be aired live on NBC itself, not USA Network – which makes up half of NBC’s 20-race broadcast schedule for this year – on NBCUniversal’s ownership.

The first four races of the four-round, 10-race playoffs are set to be shown live on USA Network, while the last six are set to be shown live on NBC. The broadcast booth consists of lead announcer Leigh Diffey, who recently took over from Rick Allen, and color commentators Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte.

This weekend marks the start of the playoffs, with the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway taking place first, airing live on USA Network from 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, September 8.

If you want to catch Johnson as he competes at Kansas Speedway on September 29 (USA Network) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 20 (NBC), both part of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, sign up for a free trial of FuboTV today and never miss any of the thrilling action!
