NASCAR: Full qualifying order revealed for Richmond race
As a hardcore NASCAR fan with decades of racing knowledge under my belt, I can confidently say that the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway is one event I simply cannot miss! The thrill of witnessing the drivers battle it out on this short track is unparalleled.
After a three-week hiatus caused by NBC’s broadcast of the Summer Olympics held in Paris, France, Richmond Raceway will be hosting the Cook Out 400, which serves as the 23rd points race for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, this coming Sunday afternoon.
For the upcoming season, the 4-cornered, 0.75-mile long oval track in Richmond, Virginia will be the initial venue to stage its second race out of the total 36 races scheduled.
Among the regular season’s schedule, only three events are repeated twice, and those are the Daytona International Speedway and Darlington Raceway, in addition to this one.
As an enthusiastic fan, I’m excited to share that Richmond Raceway, known for its compact layout, grants drivers the opportunity to make two qualifying laps instead of one during the individual qualifying sessions. The sequence in which these groups compete, including my favorite driver, is determined by a metric introduced by NASCAR in 2020. For those interested in the intricacies of this formula, a comprehensive breakdown can be found here.
In each category, the leading five contestants move forward to a final round called a “shootout” for determining pole position. During this round, they all take turns making a two-lap run for another chance at qualifying.
