NASCAR: Full qualifying order revealed for Martinsville playoff race

As a seasoned NASCAR enthusiast with over two decades of following the thrilling races under my belt, I can confidently say that the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway is an event not to be missed! The rich history and the nail-biting action make every lap count.

Once more, Martinsville Speedway serves as the venue for the penultimate race prior to the NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4, taking place at Phoenix Raceway. Among seven tracks on the playoff schedule, it’s the one that also hosted a regular season event.

Last year, Ryan Blaney from Team Penske emerged victorious at the 500-lap Xfinity race held at the four-turn, 0.526-mile (0.847-kilometer) oval in Ridgeway, Virginia. This triumph secured his place among the Championship 4 contenders. In the end, he claimed his first championship title with this achievement.

For the upcoming race on Sunday, group qualifying will be employed. However, since Martinsville is a compact racetrack, drivers will make a pair of two-lap qualifying attempts instead of just one lap during the individual session.

Since the Xfinity 500 is a playoff race, the eight championship contenders aren’t included in the ranking system until every other driver has been placed, guaranteeing that they all qualify at the conclusion of their specific groups and that there are four drivers in each group.

In contrast to our earlier visit to the “Paperclip” in April, the fastest five drivers from each group will progress to the next phase, which itself has been changed to a group format due to a rule adjustment made mid-season.
