NASCAR: Full qualifying order revealed for Clash at Bowman Gray
2025 NASCAR Cup Series season kicks off unofficially with the Cook Out Clash on a Sunday evening at Bowman Gray Stadium.
The 0.25-mile (0.402-kilometer), four-lap track is slated to be the fourth venue hosting The Clash over the past six years. Previously held on Daytona International Speedway’s oval for 42 years, the exhibition race shifted to its interior road course in 2021. Subsequently, it moved to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 2022 and stayed there until 2024.
On Sunday evening, the upcoming race marks the first NASCAR Cup Series event held at the track known as “the Madhouse,” since 1971.
A distinctive racing format will be employed for qualifying in the year 2024. This format will divide teams into three practice groups, which will be arranged based on the owner standings from that year. In qualifying, each of these three groups will further split into two smaller groups. To clarify, this is not a traditional one-on-one qualifying session; instead, it will involve group qualifying sessions.
In this scenario, after determining the rankings through qualifying rounds, the lineups for the four 25-lap preliminary races are established. From each heat, five drivers advance to the main event, while the remaining drivers participate in a 75-lap Last Chance Qualifier. The top two finishers from this race also earn spots in the 200-lap final event.
Of those drivers who don’t make it through the qualifying heats or the Last Chance Qualifier, the one who finished highest in the previous season’s rankings earns the starting position number 23. Unfortunately, the remaining sixteen drivers don’t get a chance to participate.
