NASCAR: Full Michigan starting lineup if qualifying gets canceled

NASCAR: Full Michigan starting lineup if qualifying gets canceled

As a seasoned NASCAR enthusiast with over three decades of racing under my belt, I must admit that the unpredictable nature of weather at the racetrack never ceases to amaze me. It seems like every other week we’re dealing with the possibility of a rainout, and this weekend looks no different.

In the initial 23 races of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, only once did a qualifying session get cancelled due to rain, which was about two months ago at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. This led to the race starting order being determined using a ranking system that NASCAR implemented in 2020 instead.

As a gamer eagerly anticipating this weekend’s race at Michigan International Speedway, I’ve got my eyes on Saturday’s qualifying session. The Weather Channel hints that there might be some unexpected weather changes, which could potentially wash out the qualifiers. If that happens, it seems like the starting grid for Sunday’s 200-lap FireKeepers Casino 400 could be decided based on practice times instead. That four-turn, 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) track in Brooklyn, Michigan is calling my name! Let’s hope for clear skies and a thrilling race!

As a die-hard fan, I’m all geared up for the qualifying session kicking off at 1:20 PM Eastern Time. The Weather Channel predicts a 60% chance of thunderstorms in the track’s vicinity, starting from noon ET and lasting until 4 PM ET. So, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that the weather cooperates!

If qualifying gets scrapped, I’d be starting the race on Sunday afternoon from the front seat, driving the No. 11 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, with Denny Hamlin at the wheel.

As a dedicated fan, I’d like to break down the qualifying metric for you. This system focuses on four crucial aspects:

In case rain forces the cancellation of qualifying, here’s the planned starting lineup for the FireKeepers Casino 400 race.

Full Michigan starting lineup (with qualifying rainout)

1st – Denny Hamlin in the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota
