NASCAR driver moving to a different car for Bristol night race

As a seasoned NASCAR enthusiast with years of following the sport under my belt, I must say that the unpredictable nature of Kaulig Racing this year has been quite the rollercoaster! The constant rotation of drivers behind the wheel of their iconic No. 16 Chevrolet has kept us on our toes and added a layer of excitement to each race.

Throughout the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season, Kaulig Racing has swapped five drivers in and out for their No. 16 Chevrolet. Lately, Shane van Gisbergen, one of their three permanent Xfinity Series drivers, has been behind the wheel in every one of the last four races.

On that Sunday afternoon race at Watkins Glen International, both A.J. Allmendinger and van Gisbergen participated, with Allmendinger representing Matt Kaulig’s team at the famous New York road course.

For a third time this season, the team placed the No. 13 Chevrolet alongside their regular entries, the No. 16 and No. 31 Chevrolets, this time for Daniel Hemric. Every instance they’ve added the No. 13 car, it has been specifically for AJ Allmendinger.

Allmendinger is slated to make a comeback for the Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night, however, he won’t be driving the No. 13 Chevrolet this time around.

Allmendinger back in the No. 16 car at Bristol

This season, Allmendinger, who races full-time with Kaulig Racing in the Xfinity Series, has driven the No. 16 Chevrolet most frequently (nine times) and holds the lead among all drivers. He is preparing for his tenth start this Saturday in the 500-lap race at the four-turn, 0.533-mile high-banked racetrack in Bristol, Tennessee. Notably, Allmendinger previously raced for the team at Bristol back in March and ended up in 23rd place.

After racing full-time in the Cup Series since 2018, Allmendinger is returning to compete full-time in the Xfinity Series in 2024. However, Kaulig Racing has announced that he will be driving the No. 16 Chevrolet full-time in the Cup Series again next year.

2025’s arrangements regarding car No. 31 Chevrolet remain uncertain, however, Hemric will conclude his tenure for the 2024 season. (Or) The future plans for the No. 31 Chevrolet in 2025 are undecided, but Hemric is set to wrap up his 2024 season.

Tune into the Bass Pro Shops Night Race this Saturday, September 21, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET, live on USA Network from Bristol Motor Speedway! Don’t forget to sign up for a free trial of FuboTV now so you won’t miss any of the action!
