NASCAR driver change confirmed before Watkins Glen playoff race

As a seasoned gamer who’s been following NASCAR for decades, I must say the 2024 Cup Series is shaping up to be quite the rollercoaster ride! The shifting drivers in Rick Ware Racing’s No. 15 Ford and Kaulig Racing’s No. 16 Chevrolet have kept things unpredictable, adding a layer of excitement that only a good game could offer.

In the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, Kaz Grala has taken part in most of the races held thus far, with him piloting the No. 15 Ford for Rick Ware Racing across 16 out of the 26 races scheduled during the regular season.

However, over the last seven race events, starting from two months back at Pocono Raceway, Grala has managed just a single appearance. He raced for Rick Ware’s team in the final event of the regular season at Darlington Raceway, which took place two weekends ago.

This season, Cody Ware has driven the No. 15 Ford in seven races for the team, compared to Riley Herbst who’s made four starts. Notably, Ware achieved his best career finish of fourth place in a race held at Daytona International Speedway recently. He also participated in the opening round of the playoffs last week at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

But Grala is set to return at Watkins Glen International.

Among the charter entries competing in the 2024 season, the Ford numbered 15 and Kaulig Racing’s Chevrolet numbered 16 are those that have been driven by multiple drivers. Specifically, Shane van Gisbergen will be driving the No. 16 Chevrolet for the fourth consecutive race weekend at Watkins Glen.

Among the drivers operating the vehicle this year, Van Gisbergen is one of five. His permanent teammates in the Xfinity Series, A.J. Allmendinger and Josh Williams, are also among them. Additionally, Ty Dillon and Derek Kraus join the list as well.

Regarding Rick Ware Racing, it is anticipated that Grala will participate in five additional races this season following this weekend’s event, while Ware is expected to compete in three more. However, the team has not yet disclosed who will pilot the No. 15 Ford for any race beyond this weekend’s Go Bowling at The Glen, which takes place on the renowned eight-turn, 2.454-mile (3.949-kilometer) natural terrain road course in Watkins Glen, New York.

Beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time on this coming Sunday, the 15th of September, USA Network will broadcast live coverage of the Go Bowling event held at Watkins Glen International. Don’t forget to catch all the action – sign up for a free trial of FuboTV right away!
