NASCAR driver announcement reveals 2025 lineup clue

It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of grassroots racing and the power of dreams coming true.

On Tuesday, Rick Ware Racing revealed their driver lineup for the upcoming 2025 NASCAR Cup Series, yet the decision didn’t meet the expectations of many fans.

Rick Ware’s team has announced that Tim Brown, a standout at Bowman Gray Stadium and an employee in their workshop, will participate in the preseason Busch Light Clash exhibition race. This event takes place at the four-cornered, quarter-mile (0.402-kilometer) track located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a venue that hasn’t hosted a Cup Series event since 1971. In recent years, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum has been hosting the Clash from 2022 up until 2024.

Brown, currently holding the record for most wins on the track, plans to pilot the No. 15 Ford in an effort to secure a spot for the upcoming race on February 2nd, which is two weeks prior to the 2025 season’s kickoff at Daytona International Speedway with the 67th annual Daytona 500.

Tim Brown, a seasoned racer from Bowman Gray with 101 modified victories and 12 track titles under his belt, will have an opportunity to race a Cup car at the track. He has been added to the entry list for the Rick Ware Racing No. 15 car in the upcoming Clash event. At 53 years old, Brown lends his expertise as a suspension and drivetrain specialist within the RWR shop.

This confirmation is Rick Ware Racing’s first driver confirmation of the 2025 season.

In the 2024 season, Rick Ware Racing fielded two Ford-branded vehicles, specifically the No. 15 and No. 51 models. However, RFK Racing plans to utilize one of these chartered entries in 2025 as they grow their team from two to three cars, thereby reducing Rick Ware Racing to having only one charter for the following season.

As a gamer, I’m pondering over the news about Brown. It seems this hints at two possible scenarios: either Rick Ware Racing is considering a part-time second entry along with their chartered car, or they might be planning a driver rotation for their chartered ride.

It’s plausible that both scenarios could play out: Rick Ware Racing might field the No. 51 Ford as a full-season chartered entry, while the No. 15 Ford could make sporadic appearances. However, there’s also a chance that various drivers may share the No. 51 car throughout the season.

Next year, it is anticipated that RWR will operate a full-time car (car No. 51) and a part-time car (car No. 15), with the exact number of races yet to be determined. The driver lineup for the team has not been finalized either, as it may adjust based on sponsorships and other factors.

In the 2025 season, Justin Haley was originally scheduled to drive the No. 51 Ford again, but during the 2024 season, he opted to go back to Spire Motorsports instead. As a result, Corey LaJoie, who had previously driven for Spire, took over. However, it’s speculated that LaJoie might be in contention for a seat at Rick Ware Racing in 2025. Yet, even if he gets this seat, it doesn’t necessarily mean he will compete full-time.

In the year 2024, the No. 15 Ford was jointly driven by Kaz Grala, Cody Ware, and Riley Herbst. However, it’s worth noting that Herbst has secured a full-time position at 23XI Racing for the upcoming season, while Grala and Ware don’t have any confirmed plans for the year 2025 as of now.

Beginning at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, February 2nd, Fox will broadcast the Busch Light Clash live from Bowman Gray Stadium.
