NASCAR Cup Series team, driver not returning for the Brickyard 400

As a dedicated NASCAR fan, I have been following the journey of NY Racing Team and J.J. Yeley with great interest. Their return to the track at Pocono Raceway this past Sunday brought back memories of their last appearance at the Tricky Triangle in 2014. The team’s experience at Pocono was a brief one, as they failed to qualify for the Brickyard 400 that year as well.

The NY Racing Team made their fourth visit to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2024, with J.J. Yeley driving the No. 44 Chevrolet at Pocono Raceway on a recent Sunday afternoon. A absence of six years saw the team last competing at this track, an event Yeley also participated in back in 2014.

On Sunday, I found myself part of a team making our third appearance in the 2024 racing season. Sadly, during our first outing at Daytona International Speedway for the Daytona 500 in February, I and another driver didn’t manage to qualify.

In March and May, Yeley and his team went back to compete at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway, respectively.

After completing three laps around Long Pond Raceway, which is approximately 2.5 miles long, they won’t be racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana, a 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) oval with four turns, has been absent from the hosting schedule for the Brickyard 400 since the year 2020. Instead, its road course has taken center stage in recent years, playing host to the Cup Series race in each of the preceding three seasons.

Among the cars on the entry list last weekend, only the No. 44 car wasn’t a charter car. However, its team won’t participate in this weekend’s 160-lap race. Yet, there are still three other non-charter cars listed for the event.

Richard Childress Racing and Legacy Motor Club each plan to increase their teams from two to three cars. Specifically, RCR will add the No. 33 Chevrolet driven by Ty Dillon, while Legacy Motor Club will bring on board the No. 84 Toyota for Jimmie Johnson. Additionally, MBM Motorsports intends to run the No. 66 Ford in its sixth race of the season and the second outing for B.J. McLeod.

The New York Racing Team has yet to announce if they will participate in additional races of the 2024 Cup Series. Meanwhile, Yeley has not raced for any other teams during this season.

As a die-hard NASCAR fan who has been eagerly waiting for the return of the Brickyard 400 to Indianapolis Motor Speedway after a long hiatus, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with fellow enthusiasts! This coming Sunday, July 21, at 2:30 p.m. ET, the iconic track will play host to the first Brickyard 400 of the NASCAR Cup Series season since 2020. I can hardly contain my excitement as I make preparations for what promises to be an unforgettable racing experience.
