NASCAR Cup Series: Fox losing four races in 2025

As a dedicated NASCAR fan with decades of racing under my belt, I can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic about the changes coming our way in 2025. The new media rights deal is like a brand-new engine under the hood, and while it’s exciting to see fresh faces like Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports joining the race, I can’t help but miss the familiarity of Fox and NBC’s long-standing presence on my screen.

2024 NASCAR Cup Series season, the tenth and last under the existing media contract with Fox and NBC, has just ended at Phoenix Raceway.

Under this fresh media agreement, valued at an impressive $7.7 billion over a period of seven years, key changes are anticipated starting from the year 2025. This deal isn’t limited to our existing collaborators, Fox and NBC; it will also welcome Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports as new partners in this venture.

Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports will each broadcast five racing events, with their schedules falling between those of Fox and NBC. Notably, TNT Sports takes charge of the entire in-season tournament.

Fox losing four races for 2025

As a result of the inclusion of Amazon Video Prime and TNT Sports, the number of events broadcasted by Fox and NBC has decreased. Specifically, Fox will now only air 14 races instead of the original 18, but it will still initiate the season and include the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

Regarding the regular season points races, they have been reduced from 16 to 12. However, Fox will continue to oversee the preseason Busch Light Clash exhibition race in February, which is now scheduled to take place at Bowman Gray Stadium. Similarly, they will also handle May’s exhibition All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Apart from the decrease in the number of races, there are two significant adjustments to Fox’s broadcasting lineup. Initially, for the year 2024, there were planned to be 11 races on Fox, which was subsequently reduced to 10 due to changes in the Clash schedule. Simultaneously, the number of races scheduled for Fox Sports 1 increased from seven to eight as a result of the same Clash schedule adjustment.

In the year 2025, it’s expected that only five races will air regularly on Fox, with an additional nine races on Fox Sports 1. This results in a total of just nine races being broadcast either on Fox or NBC.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that the schedule for NBC’s coverage has been trimmed down from 20 to 14 events. However, it’s essential to clarify that it’s not NBC itself losing races, but rather reducing its race broadcasts. On the bright side, USA Network is continuing its commitment by airing 10 events, while NBC will still be showing four – a shift from the current 10 they broadcast, but certainly not a complete withdrawal from racing coverage.

In 2025, the most significant setback for Fox will be missing out on the Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, marking the beginning of Amazon Prime Video’s partnership as a NASCAR broadcaster over Memorial Day Weekend.
