NASCAR car number switches Cup Series teams (again)
As a die-hard NASCAR fan with over three decades of racing under my belt, I must say the unpredictability of this sport never ceases to amaze me! Just when you think you’ve got a handle on who’s competing and where, Team AmeriVet pops up out of nowhere for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season finale at Phoenix Raceway. Jeb Burton, last seen in the Cup Series back in 2019, is set to take the wheel this Sunday!
Initially, Team AmeriVet was not included in the roster for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series final race at Phoenix Raceway this weekend. However, they chose to participate at the last minute.
Jeb Burton, who last raced in a Cup Series event back in April 2019 with Rick Ware Racing at Richmond Raceway, will be driving for Team AmeriVet in the upcoming race on Sunday. This race takes place on the four-turn, 1.022-mile (1.645-kilometer) oval track located in Avondale, Arizona.
In a change from their former name The Money Team Racing, which was back in March 2023, the team’s second race this season took place at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Coca-Cola 600 in May. It was Ty Dillon who piloted their vehicle on that occasion.
With Team AmeriVet back this weekend, the No. 50 has changed teams yet again.
23XI Racing opted to use the No. 50 instead of the usual No. 67 for their additional race entries this year, as a tribute to the 50-year milestone of their primary sponsor, Mobil 1.
In March, Kamui Kobayashi piloted the No. 50 Toyota at Circuit of the Americas (COTA), while Corey Heim took over the same car at Nashville Superspeedway in June. Notably, Juan Pablo Montoya reentered the Cup Series after a decade-long absence, driving the No. 50 Toyota at Watkins Glen International in August.
Before the race in 2024, The Money Team Racing had already swapped their car number four times during the previous years. They used the No. 50 in their six races, held from 2022 to early 2023. This upcoming weekend’s race signifies the fourth change of the team and number for that year.
Before 2022, the No. 50 had been absent from racing since 2012, when Bill Elliott concluded his last Cup Series race with Turner Motorsports at Daytona International Speedway.
