NASCAR: Atlanta playoff race not being broadcast on NBC

As a die-hard NASCAR fan who’s been following this thrilling sport for decades, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement as we gear up for the Quaker State 400 presented by Walmart at Atlanta Motor Speedway this Sunday! The race is not being shown live on NBC this time around, but fear not, fellow speed enthusiasts! We’ve got USA Network to keep us hooked on the high-octane action.

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs kick off this coming Sunday afternoon at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where the Quaker State 400 presented by Walmart takes place – the same track that held the second race of the regular season in February.

In simpler terms, Atlanta is one of the seven events that make up the four-round, 10-race playoff series. Earlier, its second event used to be part of the regular season, but this year, it has been shifted to the playoffs. During the previous seasons, there was a race held in Atlanta as part of the regular season schedule.

As a diehard racing fan, I was disappointed to learn that this past Sunday’s thrilling 260-lap race at the Hampton, Georgia oval won’t be broadcasted live on NBC like the regular season finale at Darlington Raceway last weekend.

Atlanta race not being shown on NBC

During NBC’s broadcast schedule, they aired the last ten regular season races. Interestingly, six of these races were not shown on NBC but rather on USA Network. Starting from NBC’s schedule, USA Network took over as the alternative channel owned by NBCUniversal instead of NBC Sports Network, which ceased operations at the end of 2021.

Following the conclusion of the regular season at Darlington, the playoffs will feature a total of ten races, with four taking place on USA Network and the remaining six airing on NBC.

The first four races on USA Network are scheduled to begin the playoffs, starting with the Round of 16 race this Sunday in Atlanta and ending with the Round of 12 race three weeks later at Kansas Speedway.

The final races of the season on NBC are scheduled to begin, starting with the October competition at Talladega Superspeedway, marking the first event on NBC since the second-last race of the regular season at Daytona International Speedway two weekends ago. The season will conclude with the championship showdown in November at Phoenix Raceway.

Regardless of whether a race is aired on NBC or USA Network, the broadcast booth will feature the same personnel. Leigh Diffey has taken over from Rick Allen as the main commentator, working alongside analysts Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte.

Tune into the live broadcast of the Quaker State 400, sponsored by Walmart, airing this Sunday, September 8th from Atlanta Motor Speedway on USA Network, starting at 3:00 p.m. ET. The defending champion, William Byron from Hendrick Motorsports, will be looking to defend his title, but Daniel Suarez of Trackhouse Racing Team has already claimed victory at this track earlier this year.
