NASCAR announcement leaves two open seats for 2025
As a seasoned gamer of NASCAR races, having witnessed the thrilling battles and heartbreaking crashes over the years, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of an expanded 23XI Racing lineup for the 2025 Cup Series season. The addition of Riley Herbst to the roster, joining Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick, promises a fresh dynamic that could shake up the racing scene.
23XI Racing has made it official: despite being embroiled in legal disputes due to their refusal to sign the latest NASCAR charter agreement, they are set to grow from two to three racing vehicles for the 2025 Cup Series.
The Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan-led team, previously rumored to obtain a third charter from Stewart-Haas Racing, officially revealed that they will field the No. 35 Toyota in the 2025 season, with Riley Herbst confirmed as its full-time driver.
In the upcoming season, Herbst will be teaming up with Bubba Wallace, who is starting his fifth year as driver of the No. 23 Toyota, and Tyler Reddick, who is embarking on his third year as driver of the No. 45 Toyota.
The move leaves two open seats for the 2025 season, among the (expected) charter entries.
After RFK Racing revealed their plan to include a third vehicle for Ryan Preece by renting a charter from Rick Ware Racing, it’s clear now that Rick Ware Racing only needs one driver for the 2025 season. As for whether they will run the No. 15 Ford or the No. 51 Ford, that’s yet to be decided. However, given the circumstances, it seems plausible that they might have several drivers sharing the car across the year.
Subsequently, we have Front Row Motorsports, who find themselves in a remarkably similar predicament to 23XI Racing. They procured a third charter from Stewart-Haas Racing, yet similarly, they declined to sign the latest contract.
It’s anticipated that Zane Smith, having clinched the 2022 Truck Series title with the team, is likely to rejoin following his departure from Spire Motorsports, which was taken over by Michael McDowell, a former Front Row Motorsports driver.
Essentially, Noah Gragson appears to be taking over from McDowell in the future, while Todd Gilliland is set to switch places with McDowell and drive the No. 34 Ford. The specific cars that Gragson and Gilliland will operate, whether it’s the No. 36 or the No. 38 Ford, has yet to be determined, but one of those rides is still up for grabs.
Out of the 36 teams that have officially signed the 2025 charter agreement, 30 slots have been filled because both 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports intend to field three cars each on a permanent basis.
The upcoming NASCAR Cup Series season in 2025 will kick off with the 67th running of the Daytona 500. Live broadcasting of this race from Daytona International Speedway will commence at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, February 16, courtesy of Fox.
