NASCAR: 2024 Pocono qualifying updates, full starting lineup

As a gamer and NASCAR fan with years of experience following the sport, I’m always excited for race weekends, especially those at iconic tracks like Pocono Raceway. The Tricky Triangle has always held a special place in my heart due to its unique layout and challenging racing conditions.

Since the early 1980s, Pocono Raceway has annually hosted two NASCAR Cup Series races. However, starting from the 2022 season, this iconic track, known as the Tricky Triangle, only features one race on its schedule each year. This is also the case for the 2024 racing calendar.

As a gamer, I’d say: This coming Sunday, I’ll be participating in the thrilling Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway, brought to you by VISITPA. The track spans three turns and covers a length of 2.5 miles or approximately 4.023 kilometers. The race will consist of an exhilarating 160 laps around this oval in Long Pond, Pennsylvania.

Despite Pocono Raceway and Daytona International Speedway sharing the same length of 2.5 miles, the former is not classified as a superspeedway during qualifying sessions. At Pocono, each driver makes only one lap attempt, with the top five drivers from each group progressing to the subsequent round.

This page provides the method for sorting drivers into their respective groups and setting the qualifying order for each group.

Drivers who fail to progress from the initial group will position themselves in the outside lane, while those who don’t advance from the subsequent group will take their places in the inside lane. A minor shift from the racing series’ last visit to this track in July.

As a racing enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the latest development in Formula One racing. With a recent rule modification, the shootout for the second round and the coveted pole position is now conducted in groups instead of individual runs. It means that only the driver who sets the fastest lap time throughout the entire session will securely claim the pole position. For a comprehensive understanding of this new format, check out the detailed explanation here.
