NASCAR: 2024 Kansas playoff qualifying updates, full starting lineup

As an ardent NASCAR enthusiast with decades of racing under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement as I gaze upon the starting lineup for this Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 presented by ESPN BET at Kansas Speedway. My heart races just thinking about the thrilling competition that lies ahead!

2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoff’s initial phase has concluded, with Kansas Speedway set for the start of the Round of 12 on this coming Sunday afternoon. The event is titled the Hollywood Casino 400 presented by ESPN BET.

Among the series of events in the Round of 12, Kansas Speedway stands alone as the intermediate track. A race spanning 267 laps awaits on this four-cornered, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) racetrack located in Kansas City, Kansas. This event will serve as a precursor to the “wild card” races at Talladega Superspeedway and the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, which will wrap up the quarterfinal round.

On Saturdays at the classic Kansas track, qualifying will take place using a group system for individual car runs. The groups and their respective orders have been decided based on a four-factor qualifying equation, which you can learn more about here.

As a gamer, I’d say: In this tournament, only the 12 championship hopefuls aren’t placed initially, so we can ensure they’re at the end of the line and there are exactly six in each batch. Once everyone else is sorted, the fastest five from each group, whether they’re playoff drivers or not, make it to the next round.

Unlike their visit to Kansas in May where racing was an individual event, the current second round has been transformed into a team-based format due to a rule adjustment in June. This means that achieving the second fastest speed during qualifying no longer automatically secures a starting position at the front of the grid.

This Sunday, September 29, starting at 3:00 p.m. ET, the Hollywood Casino 400 presented by ESPN BET will air live on USA Network from Kansas Speedway. Last year, Tyler Reddick of 23XI Racing emerged victorious in this race, but Kyle Larson from Hendrick Motorsports won at Kansas back in May, narrowly beating Chris Buescher from RFK Racing in a record-breaking finish for the NASCAR Cup Series. If you haven’t already started a free trial of FuboTV, now is the perfect time to do so and catch all the action!
